We visited this place with another couple and found a lively, neighborhood bar scene with great food and fun music. The servers are jovial and helpful. The cuisine (french/latin) is an unusual combination (in Chinatown) but it worked. We had the Cubano pork sandwich with ginger beers. They had chicarones, duck confit salad and chuleta with mai tais. Everything was very good and the evening was a great success.

Stoped in for lunch and had some very tasty sandwiches.
The Picadillo was awesome delicious and the Cubano was crunchy, yummy.
Want to return for dinner someday.

Don't be afraid to leave Waikiki for this gem. And don't let the dicey neighborhood deter you. This was one of the best meals of our entire trip and great value. Our entire family ate here and everyone came away thrilled with their meals. The mussels, the duck salad, the charcuterie plate were all amazing. The drink menu was spectacular and we loved the bistro atmosphere. I'm never holding myself hostage to Waikiki restaurants again.

Grondin is located in the old Mendonca building. During WWII this was, ahem, a "boogie house" where ladies-of-negotiable affection plied their trade. Customers can still enjoy attentive service here today at this wonderful restaurant. The menu options represent a fusion of nationalities, much like the ladies who used to work upstairs.

My personal favorite is the Jidori Chicken Mole with its creamy sauce and just a hint of chocolate. The smooth spices in this dish make a lasting impression.

I've eaten the escargot several time but find them a little tough for my taste so I will be ordering the moules frite from now on which I find more tender.

If you are looking for something special I recommend allowing yourself the opportunity to be seduced by Grondin's provocative flavors and sensual atmosphere.

If my wife hadn't recommended it, I wouldn't have gone. The location is a bit dicey- skid row and strip joints. But once you're inside the door, it's a fantastic bistro. The menu has interesting twists on nearly everything, from cocktails to appetizers to mains and dessert. I enjoyed the Salade Frisée (with a deliscios house bacon). My pink snapper main was pan fried with a crisp skin and moist center.

Service was very friendly and helpful. For five people, with appetisers, mains, and dessert (and cocktails) our tab was <$50/ per person. Great value!

We would definitely come back!
