Absolutely fantastic views of the ocean. The pictures show real colors of the water--they're not photoshopped! It was tough to leave the house cause I just wanted to stare at the ocean and enjoy the breeze. We saw lots of whales (jumping, breaching, a small pod of whales even went right by the house so close we could hear them breathe), sea turtles, the resident spotted monk seal, fishing and diving boats, parasailers, military aircraft, crashing waves, sunset. There are two binoculars for guests to use. The house has a nice split-level type layout. It is a little dated but furnished very comfortably and good kitchen appliances. The kitchen, bathrooms, and laundry are stocked with most things like a regular home (e.g. don't need to bring own shampoo or laundry detergent) and the fridge has a built-in water filter and icemaker. House comes with welcome basket of fruit. And free coconuts from the yard!
There are a couple of shopping complexes 5-10min drive for dining, groceries, dive shops, movie theatre. Costco, Safeway. Hanauma Bay is 5min drive away. Waikiki about 20-25min and HNL about 30-35min without traffic. Kailua/Lanikai beaches are about 40min drive (Lanikai side has softer sand). Koko Kai Beach Park can be accessed by walking about 1/4? mile along the ocean rock towards China Wall from behind the house. There's no sand there I don't think, but people hang out on the rocks and snorkel there since entry into the water is a small hop instead of cliff-jumping. People surf here too but crashing into the walls might be treacherous. I saw Ocean Rescue Patrol cruising the coast throughout the day.
The house has a long stairwell leading down from street level. There are lights on the stairs at night which need to be switched on but flashlight might be useful too. There are 3 floors; master en-suite upstairs, living/kitchen on main, laundry and full bath on half level below, 1 queen guest and 1 queen en-suite (w/sleeping loft) on lower level. The master and queen en-suite tended to be the warmest spots in the house while the master could remain stuffy into the evening since it didn't get as much breeze up there. Lower level queen guest room had great breeze. Best oceanviews are from the patios, living room and queen en-suite.
Some things to be aware--a neighbor does yard maintenance in the mornings. He pulls out the sanitation bins to the street on designated days. WiFi works throughout the house but can be spotty. The house is right by Spitting Caves, which is pretty popular for sightseeing and fishing, as early as sunrise and even well after dark. It doesn't get too noisy and there is a fence around the house for privacy. Many people jump off the 50ft cliffs for fun--not recommended as it is dangerous. People bring drones and sometimes look into the surrounding homes. There is a lot of construction going on currently and there may be hammering and machinery noise. The house does not have a/c. Oftentimes it is cooler outside than inside the house cause the breeze works better outside. The house gets direct sunlight. Personally, I thought this house had a very high cleaning fee compared to other properties.
Property management is professional, very responsive before and during the stay, and very accommodating. House is well-maintained. Great place to relax and chill out.
