Stayed in a Tower ocean suite diamond head room. This hotel is right on the beach... there are only a few that are actually on the beach. Walk out the door to the surf, reserve a cabana, order drinks from the pool/beach bar, take a surfing lesson or ride a catamaran.. all right there. Enjoy incredible sunsets from your two balconies overlooking the beach. Nice spa and workout facilities too. This is heaven.

Room Tip: Diamond head views are best..if your budget allows, go for the tower suite with Diamond Head view, It is at the end of the building overlooking the beach with the Diamond Head Crater in full view beyond the famous Waikiki beach. Ask for an upper level floor for best views; note you will be able to hear the live music from the beach bars until 9 or 10, but it is good Hawaiian music so its all part of the experience.

The very best location in Honolulu, nothing comes close. Great history, architecture and of course Westin service. A room overlooking Waikiki beach was perfect. Not as big as other Westins, but the outside view compensated for everything. Private enclosure on the beach. Choice of informal and informal restaurants. Wonderful cocktails and more.

Room Tip: Pay extra, get the view

Our 5th floor suite overlooked the patio with the Big Banyan tree that between the branches I can see Waikiki a Beach. An amazing view from our room, dining room. Best Yoga class ever for me in the West Diamond side looking out to the beach. Decor was a tad dated but the high ceiling open airy feel of the lobby and access to the beach - 5 steps from their pool made up for it.Got my best tan at this hotel and Waikiki beach.

Everyone should probably stay here at least once. It's the history of this hotel that makes it special. Otherwise it's not that unique for hotels on Waikiki. The pool is not heated, is small and has limited lounges, so don't stay here if lounging at the pool is important to you. Also, avoid street facing rooms since the noise from the street is annoying until late into the night.

It is truly a beautiful building with rich history and a great location. I spent several weeks debating which SPG hotel to stay at during my time in Waikiki, and ended up choosing the Surfrider. I was sadly underwhelmed as a Platinum member. They were unable to accommodate my suite night upgrade request, which is understandable. However, the housekeeping service was terrible. It looked like they barely touched the room. There was still trash and room service items left in the room, and the bathroom had not been touched. Was hoping for more.
