Amazing display of the Union and Confederate army battalions who fought against each other in the famed Battle of Vicksburg. It brings that battle to life as the statues and monuments have been erected on the battlefield, where each of the participating states army took up position! A must see! Thanks Gillian

We would have loved to do the guided 2 hour tour but had no room in our car for the tour guide. As a substitute, we tried the cell phone tour which was easy to use and informative. Especially enjoyed climbing up to the Illinois Memorial, walking around the Shirley House and taking in the view at Stop #9.

We highly recommend the private guided tour. Well worth the cost. The park is full of monuments, but if you really want to get the relevant information on the battle formations and outcomes, you need to have a knowledgeable guide with you. See the film first. Budget several hours for your visit.

Came to see this park as it is the main attraction in the area. There is a small visitors center and there is a movie you can watch that tells the story of Vicksburg in the Civil War. The movie was pretty good, as it gave both the military and civilian perspectives. However, it was not very balanced in giving much of the story from the slaves perspective other than to report that they were joining Union troops to help win the war. The displays did give some information on the African American perspective. After talking to some locals, especially in Natchez, this is becoming more of an issue.

We spent $15 on a cd to listen to as you drove through the park to get information on the displays, and when we got the cd we were told part of the park road was closed to erosion. Given the system was a loop road, it made it a bit complicated to see the whole park easily. Our tips said not to miss the USS Cairo Museum, so we made that our priority, and glad we did.

Essentially there are a ton of monuments of all kinds and a few buildings. The area is very pretty and it is a nice drive. It was not crowded so it was pretty easy to get around.

We drove through the cemetery on a very narrow winding road and glad we saw that as it put a lot of the toll of this war in perspective. The story of the battle of Vicksburg was such an important one for the outcome of the Civil War. So we were pleased that we came but not overwhelmed by the facilities.

The $15 CD was horribly out of date with instructions that said to follow the orange markers, which were since long gone. The area of Vicksburg is horribly depressed, locals we talked to said real estate is hard to sell, and when driving through town you could see that there were some pretty spectacular older southern homes that were indeed for sale.

This is a park worth visiting, and a park worth fighting to maintain. It needs some help to get the roads fixed, and some good volunteers with some electronic skills to update the audio tour.
