We spent two nights (sadly only two - wish it had been more!) at Castlereagh Bungalow following a gruelling two week tour of Sri Lanka, taking in the Cricket at Galle and Colombo. We were definitely ready for a rest, and that is exactly what we had, in tranquil surroundings. The Bungalow was beautiful, tastefully decorated, very comfortable and elegant. The verandah was lovely with stunning views and we spent a lot of time sitting there relaxing. It rained both afternoons between about 3 and 5. The staff seemed rather apologetic about the rain, though personally we found it lovely and refreshing after the heat and bustle of Colombo. And it's not quite like our rain in the UK is it ?! The food was lovely, though one small gripe was that we were not offered the chance of Sri Lankan food for our first night, and indeed had to request it for our second. We were constantly surprised in Sri Lanka that there was so much Western food on offer. An awful shame we thought, though obviously there is demand for it. The tea was lovely, though there hardly seemed time to fit in so many meals ! There were lots of activities for those that wanted them (we didn't). I went on one of the marked treks on my own which I thoroughly enjoyed. Everyone I met greeted me and smiled. Our room was large and spacious and the only thing we didn't like is that the shower is placed over the bath with a circular shower curtain. A real shame as there was plenty of space for a separate shower. Also there was no vanity mirror with light and plug socket. (This is a constant complaint of mine, and makes drying hair and make-up very difficult). But those are the only things that weren't perfect. The staff were delighful and very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The free laundry was a bonus. We would definitely recommend Tea Trails.

Stay here for an incredible stay at old tea plantation bungalows that offer challenging hikes around each bungalow plus hikes between the bungalows. We stayed at Castlereigh and Summerville and love the reservoir views but would definitely return to try the other bungalows. This is a seamless operation of tailored meals, mixed drinks, hikes, complimentary laundry service that follows you to each bungalow and even tasteful music that plays in the living room each night. Hands down the best hotel experience to date...and the best scones.

This was the best hotel we stayed in during our tour of Sri Lanka and we think probably one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in! We had three nights in the Norwood Bungalow in a Garden Suite. The rooms are gorgeous, the staff could not be more helpful, the food fabulous and the inclusive drink selection varied and excellent quality.

Particular highlights for us were the well laid out walks around the estates, the tea factory tour, all the meals (we particularly loved afternoon tea!) and generally the level of service which was fantastic. For example the staff made up a snack box and ensured we had this and were prepared for our walk up Sri Padre to see sunrise from the summit despite the fact we had to leave for this trek at 1am! We loved every minute of our stay here and can not recommend Tea Trails enough for a truly relaxing and interesting stay in the hill country.

We just spent two nights at the tientsin bungalow. It was the highlight of our Sri Lanka trip so far. The staff are excellent and the location is spectacular, surrounded by tea plantations and waterfalls, not to mention the beautiful garden that surrounds the house itself. The sitting room is a great place to chat with other guests over a glass of champagne (or two..) before dinner. We enjoyed all of the meals but wish we had remembered to have afternoon tea - although we probably ate too much as it was! There are loads of activities on offer - we climbed adam's peak. I'm not sure I would recommend this unless you are fit or very interested in religion. The scenary on the drive there and back is definitely worth seeing though. If we had stayed another day i would have done a self guided walk to one if the other bungalows since this would have been easier and provided better photo opportunities. The factory tour was worthwhile but we found it a bit too detailed (it went for two hours but really should have been 1 to 1.5 hours). We wished we had stayed at one of the other bungalows as well. We met a couple that had stayed at the other three and were about to stay at Tientsin. Their favourite of the other three was Castlereagh. Finally, if you get car sick easily bring some travel sickness pills - the roads in the hill country are some of the windiest I've seen.

My partner and I had excellent luck making a last-minute reservation with Ceylon Tea Trails after climbing Sri Pada early that morning. We booked at the hotel for three nights and were completely blown away by the services and amenities. The staff there went out of their way to make sure we had absolutely everything we needed. I truly could not have asked for anything more!
