We spent two nights (sadly only two - wish it had been more!) at Castlereagh Bungalow following a gruelling two week tour of Sri Lanka, taking in the Cricket at Galle and Colombo. We were definitely ready for a rest, and that is exactly what we had, in tranquil surroundings. The Bungalow was beautiful, tastefully decorated, very comfortable and elegant. The verandah was lovely with stunning views and we spent a lot of time sitting there relaxing. It rained both afternoons between about 3 and 5. The staff seemed rather apologetic about the rain, though personally we found it lovely and refreshing after the heat and bustle of Colombo. And it's not quite like our rain in the UK is it ?! The food was lovely, though one small gripe was that we were not offered the chance of Sri Lankan food for our first night, and indeed had to request it for our second. We were constantly surprised in Sri Lanka that there was so much Western food on offer. An awful shame we thought, though obviously there is demand for it. The tea was lovely, though there hardly seemed time to fit in so many meals ! There were lots of activities for those that wanted them (we didn't). I went on one of the marked treks on my own which I thoroughly enjoyed. Everyone I met greeted me and smiled. Our room was large and spacious and the only thing we didn't like is that the shower is placed over the bath with a circular shower curtain. A real shame as there was plenty of space for a separate shower. Also there was no vanity mirror with light and plug socket. (This is a constant complaint of mine, and makes drying hair and make-up very difficult). But those are the only things that weren't perfect. The staff were delighful and very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The free laundry was a bonus. We would definitely recommend Tea Trails.
