What a hidden gem. I hesitate to provide such a review because I want it to stay that way. This is the type of place my husband and I try to escape to - off the beaten path, not over developed, immersed in a foreign country, and breathtaking. Hotel giacomino is around an hour from the port on some adventurous roads not for the faint of heart, once here you don't need to leave which explains the half board that we are not use to. This is a 3 star hotel and a very nice one, I worry other reviewers are looking for 4 stars where they should stay if that is what they need. The rooms are basic and clean with a private terrace overlooking the Mediterranean, which we referred to as the million dollar view. The location was perfect being perched up off the sea slightly, large and quiet grounds, yet a cute walk on a path to the town and beach. The salt water pool was nice for an afternoon swim, the terrace was spectacular to watch the sunset after dinner with cocktails, and the garden was peaceful for a nap or to read a book. The food is decent, always too much, 4 courses with a salad bar, choice from 2 options for pasta dish and entree typically including seafood, and choice of 5-6 desserts. We accessed hiking trails nearby, and paths along rocks where we could jump into the water. We rented lounge chairs with umbrellas at the beach for the day, rented kayaks, ate lunch at the different restaurants on the beach, and had an early evening drink at the bar in town. The hotel giacomino staff were very kind and helpful. I would recommend this place to others and would return if we ever come back to Elba.

The hotel is beautifully located in a big garden where you can sit together or find a little place for yourself. The room and large terrace was ok but about 30 years old, the bathroom was fully modern. Service from all personnel was very good. Breakfast was very good but the dinner was more mass-produced with lots of pasta. However most people seemed to like it and that is what counts. There was free WiFi but it worked only on the terrace, not in our room.

Room Tip: Almost all rooms have seaview and they are all very quiet

This small hotel is superbly located with peace and quiet guaranteed and fabulous sea views (from certain rooms). Nice large pool, with lots of sun beds with mattresses sometimes spoiled by bird droppings from the house swallows. The Costa family does its best to please all the guests, and we enjoyed out stay very much, in spite of the sometimes quirky weather.
The half board is value for money but we found it a little too simple, it could be upgraded easily with little or no cost; I would be willing pay a bit more for a better cuisine.
We are used to have the waiter come to our table when we sit down and ask if we need to order wine or other drinks. Here the food arrived first, and we had to act quickly to have our wine before the starters where cold… I think there is much room for improvement in the service, and for selling more drinks, coffee and wine before, during and after the meals.
Breakfast is OK but simple and not much fresh fruit which I find odd. The water for tea from the automatic machine is not hot enough to make proper tea. You have to ask for boiling water from the kitchen or the bar.
Our room (34) at the far end of the side building had the best sea view one can wish, with a terrace opening to the south and west to take in the full afternoon and evening sun. Definitely worth paying extra for!
Wi Fi works well in the main building or nearby, but not in our room. Further more it is very annoying having to type in the login and password every time you want to log in after having lost the connection. Definitely needs to be improved!
Elba is not easy to drive around; the roads are often narrow and curvy. But this hotel is the best located between Marciana and Patresi, a little high up the cliff but you can take the stairs from the hotel garden to the waterfront rocks and use a well-build but narrow path to the public beach 5 minutes away. If you walk the other path through the gardens it takes you 10 minutes to reach the public beach and bistro’s there.
I recommend this hotel when you want to enjoy the great view of the sea, the pool and the pineta around the hotel.

Room Tip: Pay extra for full sea view. Wi fi does not working rooms further from the main building.

This hotel is in a perfect location, with may of the great beaches of Elba a short drive around the corner, not to mention its own amazing beach/bay. The rooms are large, and well appointed, however the beds and the pillow are very firm. The rooms with a sea view are the best, the hotel is a little dated but the location makes up for this 1000 times over, they have a fantastic pool, overlooking the sea, and you can get to the ocean down some stairs in front of the hotel. Swimming off the rocks is the norm here, and the water is crystal clear and inviting ( even in May ) there is also a small beach in what you could call town, with two snack bars and one amazing seafood restaurant, food at this restaurant is off the chart "amazing" and not expensive, the fried anchovies a must have dish, the hotel also offers a dinner option as well if you don't feel like making the short 300 mtr walk to the beach, however you are required to decided some hours before dinner the choice you wish to eat ( 3 options). The included breakfast is adequate, however coffee not great, but drinkable.

Its great to sit on the hotel terrace and have pre dinner drinks and watch the sun set right in front of the hotel.

The hotel is absolute value for money compared to other sea front locations as stunning as this.

Room Tip: Sea view in the main building

If you go to Tuscany, you should find the time to visit Elba, and stay at this marvelous family-owned hotel in Sant'Andrea, located on the Northwestern part of the island. The proprietors, Franco and Marinella, along with don Giacomino and their extended family make you feel at home immediately with their warmth and generosity. We stayed for three nights in late September. The views are spectacular, the food is amazingly delicious, and our rooms impeccable and spacious. Tell your friends that visit Italy, to make a point to this this oft-missed part of Tuscany, for a truly memorable experience! Simply the best!
