I spent a lovely week at these apartments with my daughter in mid September.

We had one of the older apartments but it was fine. It was lovely sitting on the balcony in the sun in t the morning and again in the evening sipping a g&t, listening to the cicadas and the music from the bar.

Breakfast around the pool was extremely nice and was usually served by the lovely Janet - as mentioned by previous reviewers she is one of the nicest people you could ever meet!

The pool was clean and great to swim in. Drinks and food at the bar were good and reasonably priced. I must mention there 2 cleaners who kept our little apartment spick and span. We had fresh towels and bed linen every other day, which we were not expecting.

Maria, the manager, was charming and really helpful. In fact all the staff were great.

The apartments are in a quiet area in old Malia town and just a little walk from all the restaurants in the area but it's nice to walk down to the beach via the hectic strip.

All in all it was a super holiday and off I ever go back to Crete I would definitely stay ast the Bella Elena Apartments!!

We were here with my family (2 kids) all through July and August. Manager maria met our every request with a smile and Janet and Yiannis at the bar were beyond cool: they were generous and kind... great music, great atmosphere at the poolside!!! My kids especially enjoyed the company of the local cats Leo and Bacca, not to mention the table tennis challenges! A big thums up for Ivana, thanks for doing our washing and being so cheerful always!
Cretan hospitality is famous, but here at Bella Elena is went above and beyond that!
Love to all, we3 miss you,
Valerie Enzo, Alexine and Kym

Just arrived home from a relaxing 7 night stay at the Bella Elena and couldn’t wait to write a review. We arrived at around 11pm and were dropped off at the bottom of the main room – this was a bit daunting, however the locals were kind enough to help and walk with us (the hotel can be found via a few narrow Old Malia town lanes which, in the dark on your first night could get you easily lost) but the walk was worth it. We were greeted by Manos behind the bar who instantly made us feel relaxed and welcome.
Rooms in the older part are big enough and are very clean. Although you can upgrade to the newer rooms – recommended, especially if you have children or like a lot of space (and a bath)
Janet who runs the bar during the day is in our opinion, the nicest person we’ve ever met. Janet and her husband and very good chef, Johnny made our holiday. Nothing is too much trouble and Janet insists on waiting on your hand and foot. Maria, the office manager will happily help you out with any local information, as well as booking any trips you may wish to go on. We booked to go to Santorini but unfortunately due to a choppy sea it wasn’t to be – however our money was returned to us before dinner time by Maria.
The hotel is located in Malia old town, where you will find lots of traditional, quaint tavernas and bars. The ‘Strip’ is a good 15 min walk away so if you are after a quiet relaxing holiday – I would definitely recommend this hotel. Everything is within walking distance and there are 2 small shops for essentials at the bottom of the lane.
Buses run frequently both ways – I would suggest a bus ride 3.90 euros each to Agios Nicholaus – a lovely harbour town, bursting with shops and restaurants – a very hilly place so wear comfy shoes and go early as it gets busy – 2 beaches there too…another reason to go early and get a sunbed. There are also caves there that you can visit.

All in all a fantastic holiday – will be back with the family in 2017!!

We recently came back from a weeks stay at Bella Elena and I have to say we were pleasantly surprised with the hotel. It was booked by a family member for 15 of us and I didn't quite know what to expect after reading the reviews and seeing the promotional videos ( my wife is an extremely fussy person when it come to hotels) . The hotel is in a quiet location but close enough to the taverns and resturants in the old town to walk. And the younger generation have a 10 min walk to the busy strip for their entertainment. The rooms were clean but I would recomend that you upgrade to the new block where rooms are larger and more modern. The newer rooms compare to a Premier inn in the UK with a very small kitchen. Pool was nice and sunbeds were always available. I suppose what made the holiday were the staff. Maria looks after the reception and is always there to help. Janet and her husband look after the pool bar and were extremely friendly. The food was also well priced and also of a good standard (Sea food was especially great and well presented). Manos looked after the bar in the evenings...."jack the lad" springs to mind but he was also very cheerful and lets not forget the two cleaning ladies who seemed to work recentlesly on cleaning all the rooms! Worth a stay if looking for a reasonly priced holday...needless to say I didn't get any ear ache of the missis....about the hotel that is... so that is a recomondation in it's self!!
Thanks to all the staff especially Maria and Janet.

Room Tip: Book the newer rooms in the new block

We had an amazing 10 day stay at the Bella Elena. Upon arrival we received an exceptionally warm welcome from both Maria (Apartments Manager) and Janet (Bar Manager) who ensured that we settled in immediately.

Hospitality at its very best! Manos the evening bar manager, also looked after us and introduced us to his special brandy liquor shot. Good food, good music, fantastic pool and comfortable clean rooms. For me, the Bella Elena is certainly the hotel of choice in Crete.
