On arrival at the hotel we had to search for someone to allow us to check into our room. Eventually the owner appeared; he was friendly and offered to help carry our 4 cases upstairs as there is no lift. The Junior Suite was large, spacious and well equipped, as was the bathroom. We had a TV in the room with lots of channels but, unfortunately, not one of them was British. Toiletries in the room were poor and basic. We were told that the air conditioning unit had been repaired by a technician but the dripping unit continued throughout our stay, even after being ‘repaired’ for a second time.
The hotel claims to be four star but we found the breakfast to be poor. Apart from the waitress offering eggs you had to manage everything yourself. This included making a cup of tea (no English Breakfast) by filling and boiling the kettle on the breakfast room table yourself. Fruit consisted of a medium bowl of water melon cut into chunks and then another bowl of fresh whole fruit. The variety and quality was poor.
On departure from the hotel after a three night stay the manager was nowhere to be found and we had to search again for the lady who received us initially and who seemed to be doing everything from reception, bar, breakfast room and checking in and out!! She claimed the owner was on holiday and so there was no help bringing the suitcases down the slippery polished steps.
Although we enjoyed the quirkiness and history of the hotel we found the customer service was almost non-existent, which caused us to feel that our stay at Sant Salvador was not as pleasant as it could have been and was also poor value for money.

Room tip: Junior Suite noisy as there were building works outside

This is a beautiful hotel, the suite we had was fantastic with a lovely view over the pool and surrounding hills, spotlessly clean and with very effective air conditioning. The whole building is lovely and the breakfast was good. However, it has a very weird atmosphere, something akin to the Marie Celeste! There was no proper reception and most of the time we struggled to find anyone when we needed to check in, ask for breakfast eggs etc. One guy who seemed to be doing everything said they were short staffed which perhaps explained the whole place locked up and bar closed at 9pm some nights and a complete lack of any staff. I got the feeling they were actively discouraging people booking in for dinner - there was a choice of a couple of set 3 course menus (expensive compared to local restaurants) but there was absolutely no choice in each course and the menu didn't change for the 6 days we were there- who would want to eat the same meal every day? Not surprisingly we only saw about 3 people eating there over the 6 day period. The pool area was nicely landscaped but there were only 2 sets of sun loungers with umbrellas which was not enough for the guests there. One day we didn't want to give up our place at the pool so asked what they could do for lunch - nothing was the response! Only a minor point but I don't drink coffee but although promised some English breakfast tea bags on several occasions, they never materialised - bit mean when you are paying about €200 a night. When we checked out the bill was slightly higher than that which had been confirmed. Although I provided proof of the original confirmation I was told nothing could be done as the owner wasn't there. Wasn't worth arguing about £10 but it rankles. My last point is that they keep a parrot in a cage which is too small in my opinion. One morning I went into the bar (looking for someone as it was deserted as usual) and found the poor parrot was still in his cage with a blanket over it at 11a.m and he was trying to look under the blanket. I couldn't find anyone so I took it off for him but he had clearly just been left like that from overnight. In summary, its a lovely property and well located. You can have a good holiday there but don't expect any sort of customer service because nobody seemed bothered which is a shame.

Room tip: 1st floor rooms have high ceilings and are lovely

This hotel is a project of the heart. The owner has lovingly restored this petit palace and made it a beautiful destination hotel.
Set on the edge of charming Arta it is just a 5 minute stroll to the centre with good restaurants, appealing shops and historic buildings that house museums,, galleries and hidden courtyards.
There are plenty of beach options within a 15 minute drive ranging from small resorts to secret coves.
Each of the 8 bedrooms are very spacious, combining traditional features and modern comforts - large bathrooms, air con, TV, safe, mini bar and seating areas. Furnishings have character ( but don’t necessarily match ), the decor is handcrafted and high wood beamed ceilings make them a pleasing place to relax.
Public areas include a bar, outdoor breakfast terrace, dining room, walled garden and a sun-trap pool.
Staff were all friendly - though oft invisible.
We enjoyed the continental breakfast and planned to have dinner in house one evening but with only set menu options ( and a note that said dishes could not be substituted or exchanged between each of the 3 differently priced menus ) we found it too restrictive. A shame. It left the Chef significantly underemployed.
We really enjoyed our stay and will return.

If you make it up the Arta hill in your rental car and navigate the one very tight turn successfully, you will arrive at a delightful small hotel with fine dining, a pleasant bar and lovely grounds. We stayed in the room La Tia for five nights and appreciated the many thoughtful touches. A tiny niggle was the step up to the shower - a secure handrail would be appreciated.

Dinners in the small dining room were very good and beautifully presented by professional servers. The breakfast buffet was generous with a choice of eggs and bacon and managed graciously by the most competent woman who cooked, served and taught us all how to use the coffee machine at the same time in three languages.

The small but very comfortable bar (with Batha the green parrot who chooses her friends carefully) offered a daily happy hour but was quiet during our stay.

Easy parking is available in a nearby municipal lot and the hotel is a great base for hiking and birding in Llevant Parc Natural.

Staff gave immediate attention to our internet challenge and assistance with luggage was much appreciated as there is no elevator.

The welcome message was something like "we're here to make your stay a happy one" and every staff member epitomized the mantra.

A charming find!

It was a bit hair raising getting to the hotel through the narrow streets of Arta but when we arrived we were very pleased with the initial look of hotel. The breakfast area, restaurant and pool area have beautiful views and are nice and peaceful. It's a small pool area but we always found a bed and had a gorgeous gin and tonic there every day very relaxing. All rooms are different and most look beautiful .... but we were unfortunate and had Cinco which was not what I expected, large room, single beds when my booking said I had a double, deco was not nice or pretty, we had a terrace suposedly with views. This was a small narrow terrace with walls that came up to my chin so you couldn't see the views unless you were standing at the wall on tiptoes. Worse yet though was the bathroom the smell was constant we asked to be moved and couldn't the 1st night it was dreadful. A member of staff said that the cleaner is always pouring tonnes of water down the toilet. Christopher did change our room to an absolutely amazing room for a few days but we had to move back to the ugly smelly room ... I adored the 2nd room it was what I had been expecting when I booked the hotel. This did spoil my holiday my partner wanted to move hotels from the start but I gave it the benefit of doubt and if I hadn't had to move back to Cinco it would have been almost perfect On a better note the staff are amazing breakfast was gorgeous all in all a beautiful hotel but be careful what room you get. It can seriously spoil your holiday otherwise. And we had a lovely greeting from the dog every day :-)

Room tip: Don't choose the top floor room Cinco .. not unless it has been re decorated and the plumbing sorted.
