“Ideal rental property for 2, set in an enchanting lakeside village”
Reviewed 24 April 2013 for a stay in April 2013

Set in the car-free, lakeside village of Gandria, Casa Parrucchiere is a wonderful place to stay if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of modern life, but remain within easy reach of the amenities of a cosmopolitan town. This small house on 2 floors has an interesting history and is set literally feet away from the village church with its ancient tower that is typical of the Ticino region. The house is perfect for 2 people, is very well equipped, comfortable, clean and airy. Just outside the front door is a small seating area shaded beneath a vine-covered pergola. With no cars in the village, it is very peaceful, usually the only sound is of footsteps on the numerous stairways, arcades and passages that make Gandria such an enchanting place.

The village has a newly-opened community cooperative store selling wonderful local fresh and dried foods, and wines, often produced on a very small scale, that it would be difficult to find elsewhere. This means it is very easy to make your own authentic Ticinese foods in Casa Parrucchiere's kitchen !! There are also 5 restaurants in the village and a convenience store in the nearby petrol station.

Gandria is an ideal location for exploring the area. If you are travelling without a car you can make use of the village bus which goes directly to the centre of Lugano. Or there is a delightful walk along the lakeside Olive Path which will bring you to the edge of Lugano in about an hour. The village also has its own jetty from which you can board the cruiseboats that ply the lake.

The owners of the house, Nina and Richard, are a charming couple; helpful, informative and very friendly, who do all they can to make your stay relaxed and enjoyable.

“A peaceful lakeside retreat”

My wife and I have been to Lugano a number of times and stayed at several wonderful hotels until we discovered Casa Parruchieri. Located in the quiet, old, lakeside town of Gandria just east of Lugano, Casa Parruchierri is a welcoming home away from home perfect for two people or small families. Gandria's car-less stone streets and staircases that lead down to Lago di Lugano or walking paths along the lake past ancient olive groves offer a simple and refreshing respite to the modern world.

Casa Parrucchieri has all the appliances and amenities you need but there is no TV, (which you don't need in this wonderful place) so bring books, drawing materials, your camera, some simple ingredients from local markets and a good bottle of wine and you will never want to leave.

Great romantic location next to the church in Gandria. We loved our stay at Casa Parrucchiere. Very friendly, clean and many nice little details. The location is fantastic and the hosts are very kind. We stayed there with our baby and the infrastructure is very well suited for that.

“Only one word: Wonderful!”
Reviewed 5 July 2012 for a stay in June 2012

Before our trip the host-family sent us extensive information about Gandria, for example the parking situation, how we get the key of our holiday flat, where we find filling station and cheap food shops etc.
The flat is supplied with everything you need during your holiday, especially the kitchen. We cooked every day and missed nothing there. Dishwasher is at hand and the refrigerator has a freezer-partition. It´s not necessary to bring kitchen equipment from home.
The flat has no TV but a DVD player, a PC with internet and a printer. With our own laptop we received german television to see the UEFA EURO 2012 ;-))
The whole flat is very nice renovated and clean.
In the basement you find washing machine and tumbler for free.
Gandria itself is a very nice little village, but not fit for people with disabilities because of a lot of steps.
You find a big food and non-food shop in Porlezza/Italy named Billa (about 12 km from Gandria). The prices in Italy are lower than in Lugano. The shop opens daily until 11 p.m. and on sunday until 9 p.m.
For excursions you get many nice tips and maps from the host Nina and Richard. There exist a lot of actual flyers about what is going on in the surrounding.

“Welcome home!”

Perfect little house with everything you need and much more in the right place, you feel at home immediately. The house is situated right in front of the church which creates a unique atmosphere, a perfect place to relax, to forget about time, noise (no cars!) and hurry.
Gandria can be reached by bus or ship, which takes more time and is more relaxing though. For arrival and departure we would recommend the bus because there are many stairs coming up from the lake, so it's a little bit difficult with heavy suitcases. If you want to go out in the evening you need a car.
There are many possibilities to explore the Ticino and the near Italian cities, you find any kind of information in the house. Or you can just stay "at home" and enjoy this magic little place that offers you everything you need for a perfect holiday.
Our hosts checked on us regularly and were there just in case we'd need something or had some questions. The welcomed us very warmthly so you can't help but feeling at home in any possible way. We'll be back soon!
