We were scheduled to stay at the Bougainvillea Beach Resort Sept. 9-16 2017 and stay at The Crane Resort sept 16-23 2017. Hurricane Irma hit

Florida just as we were about to leave. Our flight was cancelled and rescheduled 6 times over the next 8 days. We did everything we could do to

take our vacation, but finally had to cancel our entire trip. It was a stressful week trying over and over again to get a flight on American

Airlines, but to no avail. We called the The Crane and they told us, since it was out of our control that they would reimburse us 100% for our

week with them. We called the Bougainvillea and they told us they would only reimburse us 50%. We told them that we were coming back to

Barbados in January 2019 (16 months later) and could we get a voucher for the week to use then and they told us "NO, we only will give you a

voucher to use in the next 12 months". We told them our vacation plans for 2018 were already in place and could not get there within 12 months

but they would not go just 4 more months. We had to take a 50% refund and lost hundreds on the week with them. I understand that if you cancel

the trip you may lose out, but this was out of our control and we did everything we possibly could do to get there. The Bougainvillea took

advantage of the situation and I would never recommend staying there. The Crane worked with us because they knew what we went thru and tried to

help us in a very bad situation. We will be going to Barbados many times in the coming years and will never stay at the Bougainvillea again. We

will be staying at THE CRANE RESORT because they care about their customers.

Room Tip: We have stayed here several times and never had a bad room

the Crane hotel is one of the best places to spend while in Barbados.
We have been staying there in Sep. 2017.
the premises are just beautiful, clean and perfectly maintained.
the staff is highly professional, friendly and helpful with any information

Food is excellent, especially at the Zen restaurant - unforgettable experience.

This was our first trip to Barbados and we stayed at The Crane for one week.

I'll review the various aspects of the hotel, but I'd like to make a point that the one area where this hotel stands out is in the Staff that work at the hotel. They have the most helpful, attentive and patient employees I've ever experienced in any hotel in the Caribbean. They are the ones that made this vacation memorable and enjoyable.

Arrival: Check-in was very easy and the Front Desk staff were very helpful. We were given a cool towel and complimentary Rum Punch which was appreciated since the Reception area is not air conditioned.

Accommodations: The room we were initially given was very large with full kitchen, laundry and separate bedroom. The only issue we had was that there was insufficient closet space for hanging our clothes, and the A/C didn't seem to be working. We contacted the Front Desk to ask them to move us to a different room, even if smaller without a kitchen, as long as it had more closet space and working A/C. Shortly thereafter, Dennis (Guest Relations Manager) arrived at our room to get a better understanding of our needs. He was an extremely gracious and patient gentleman, and assured us that although he might not be able to move us today, that he would do his best to accommodate us. About 30 minutes later, the Front Desk called to advise us that they had an alternate room to show us. The new room was in a much better location and accommodated our needs much better, and still had the full kitchen....THANK YOU DENNIS...you're hospitality and sincerity was extremely appreciated.
As some other reviewers have pointed out, some of the amenities need to be refurbished or replaced, especially the shower area which was very moldy looking, but the hotel is older an the weather does take it's toll on everything. However the top Management should make provisions to bring it up to 5-Star status, as the location and staff is certainly 5-star.
The maid service was punctual and consistent. Although the room wasn't spit-polished shined everyday, the maid service was more than acceptable and my wife is convinced that the bed sheets were changed every single day.

Restaurants: We opted for the Breakfast & Dinner plan. I suggest only getting the Dinner if it is available, as the prices on the menu for breakfast and lunch are less than what you would pay for the meal plan. Even dinner, unless you are eating every night at L'Azure, don't bother getting the meal plan. Food is generally good at all restaurants. Breakfast is the same menu every day and the food is good. Lunch is the same menu at the Carriage House by the pool which is also very good food. Dinner at the Italian Restaurant was good. The best meals are at L'Azure which overlooks the ocean. The food at L'Azure is AWESOME. You can't go wrong with anything on the extensive menu which is a testament to the chef. I had the Filet Mignon twice and it was cooked to perfection both times. Food is ample so take time to digest! The waiter recommended the Barracuda which I normally wouldn't even consider, but I ordered it and am so glad, as it was the BEST fish I've ever had in my life. Make sure to order the Barracuda. As I've said in the past, the service is OUTSTANDING, and the restaurant staff is no exception. Note: Be prepared to spend at least 90 minutes - 2 hours at breakfast, lunch and dinner.....there is no rushing to get your food to you....but you are on vacation so enjoy the unhurried pace.

Pools: Great adult pool overlooking the beach. Large, multi-level pool for everyone is also nice, but not many options for shade if you don't manage to secure one of the huts available. Pool could use more upkeep aside from the daily cleaning.

Beach: You need to walk down several flights of stairs to get to the beach. There is an elevator, but it is being replaced and was out of service while we were there. The beach is beautiful and the white sand is like powder which never gets hot. Lots of beach chairs with umbrellas for shade. Drinks available on the beach, along with fresh towels. Walking back up the stairs is exhausting after being in the sun all day, but probably the only exercise I got the entire trip!

There is a great coffee and ice cream shop on premises, along with general store, gift shop etc...Really its like a small village which I really liked. Everything was close together and convenient.

The entertainment that they book to sing/perform at the bar each night are absolutely amazing. They sing songs better than the original artists. We loved capping off the night listening to a live band.

To summarize, I will reiterate that the staff is what makes this hotel special.
I'd like to also give special mention to Errol who brought our luggage to our "rooms" on the first day of arrival. An extremely patient young man who was very informative and is a true asset to the hotel.

Thanks to all the staff at The Crane!

Maybe I'm a glutton for punishment but this will be our fifth stay at The Crane; And as always its sometimes a roller coaster ride. The Crane is located on the remote side of the island with breath taking views & a "non resort feel". Come here for peace and NOT an all inclusive party animal scene. So day one as always no AC..... call the front desk "not our first time we know the deal can you bring up a portable AC & fan". That evening no water....convenient right before the baby's nightly routine "bath time". Day two lovely massage I booked for the wife and a courtesy call from the front desk "everything well?" besides the water issue everything is good. So I'm doing a load of laundry at my lovely in-suite washer/dryer when an employee opens the door "they said you checked out" (do not disturb sign in hand)...no worries. As Hurricane Maria passed the resorts power went out twice and the water did not work once again, but at the most the power outage lasted a little over an hour. The Front-Desk providing lanterns to several guests. The elevator stopped working on day two and lugging a stroller up/down four flights of stairs for several days was not fun. But I get it heat, humidity, and salt water are not good for mechanics but a “hey we are sorry let us buy you a beer for the inconvenience” would be nice. This place CAN be great but lacks some attention to detail... lights burnt out, cleanliness (nasty pool chair cushions), oil to prevent rust on everything in the room. The one thing I can say is they are consistent with little to no improvements. My suggestions get new pool chairs & cushions, change the lights that are out, get better sheets & pillows, bring more items into the general store, offer a cool face cloth at check-in along side my complimentary rum punch, have diaper changing tables in restrooms, and finally don’t use white couch covers (nasty stains all over). I’m not sure if we will every return for visit number six....but I can say most of the staff is very friendly. The restaurants have great food/drink and the WIFI is really good all over the property. Lashawn from the spa was really accommodating providing a fresh piece of Aloe for my wife. The check-out was fast and a taxi was readily available ($40 BD vs. $31 BD arriving).

We stayed here for a week in August and loved every moment of our stay. The hotel was lovely, the views gorgeous at every turn and the staff warm and friendly. While we had plans to leave the resort and partake in other island activities we ended up being so in love the the resort we only left twice (once for the Ostin's Fish Fry , and once for a catamaran cruise) We still think of it everyday and we hope to return!
