The Pipers lodge is a very nice place to stay, with clean rooms and sanitaries. It is also only 20 minutes driving from the beginning of the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, so that's very convenient. They have hot pools which was highly appreciated after the hike, and you can get a lunch for the hike or book the shuttle to the crossing from there.
Very welcoming place, I would recommend it !

The hosts Bruce and Dianne really know how to take care of their guests well, and try their best to fulfill guests’ requirements. We stayed for 2 nights for the Tussock Traverse and felt really relaxing before and after the race. The place is just off the main road and it’s quiet and still able to see the mountains from the window.

There is a large lounge which has good community vibe and it feels good to be able to mingle with travelers and hikers alike.

The staff at Pipers Lodge were SO HELPFUL. They were eager to help with our shuttle booking, keeping our luggage safe, trying to help with bank problems, giving future travel suggestions, and answering our many questions. The room was comfortable as well. Double thumbs up!
