My partner and I walked into Pipers totally unprepared for the Tongariro crossing. Diane and Bruce were incredibly helpful and friendly to help us get ready for the hike and make our stay enjoyable. We spent more than two weeks travelling throughout New Zealand and Pipers was our favorite place to stay by far. We're already talking about the next time we visit (from New York City, so it's going to be a while...) that we will surely go back to Pipers and say hello (and ski next time!)

Room Tip: very welcoming and friendly owners!

The Pipers lodge is a very nice place to stay, with clean rooms and sanitaries. It is also only 20 minutes driving from the beginning of the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, so that's very convenient. They have hot pools which was highly appreciated after the hike, and you can get a lunch for the hike or book the shuttle to the crossing from there.
Very welcoming place, I would recommend it !

The hosts Bruce and Dianne really know how to take care of their guests well, and try their best to fulfill guests’ requirements. We stayed for 2 nights for the Tussock Traverse and felt really relaxing before and after the race. The place is just off the main road and it’s quiet and still able to see the mountains from the window.

There is a large lounge which has good community vibe and it feels good to be able to mingle with travelers and hikers alike.
