Beautiful quintessentially English pub with a lovely open log fire - perfect surroundings for one of the most delicious pub roasts I've ever tasted. The beef was cooked to perfection and every single one of the many trimmings were just excellent. Highly recommend this pub but I'd recommend booking in advance as they are (rightly so) very popular! Can't wait to visit again!

Used to visit the Duke a lot during the 1980's and early 90's but this was a first visit back since then.

Obviously some things have changed, but much of the original charm fortunately has not. Glad to hear the trout are not selected by the customer and fished straight from the pond outside anymore!

Good meal with quality ingredients and good presentation. Staff friendly, but forgot table water until reminded and a glass of wine was forgotten about towards the end of the meal.

Prices reflect the quality. Will visit again.

We went here with a friend for lunch on a rather cool and damp Friday so sadly didn't get to see the gardens at their best. It had been recommended by a friend, to whom we will be forever grateful. What a great place, great staff and excellent food. It being Friday two of us had the ale battered haddock fillet and chips and our companion opted for the home-made burger (even the bun is homemade) with chips. The haddock pieces were large and the batter just perfect, thin and crispy and none of that dough-y stuff inside. The fish was beautiful and moist but the CHIPS were the best I have ever eaten anywhere. Thick-cut but very, very crispy. The burger was also excellent, thick and served slightly pink (as you can when you use decent steak) and the bun was the most attractive toasty gold colour. A party of 22 arrived just as we were at the pudding stage and it was wonderful to watch how efficiently they were all served, firstly with wine and then with a wonderful selection of roast meats and vegetables. It got a bit noisy but they were all lovely and having a good time. Well done Duke of Cumberland. You've got my vote - and I might come back next time just for a plate of chips! Thank you all

This is the second time we have been here. The food is amazing - really well prepared and presented. Totally hits the mark! Nice intimate dining room with very attentive staff a lovely location for a romantic dinner or to meet friends for a social event. Gardens are excellent and a great location for summer dining.

Such a great little find. Beautiful village, cosy little pub with great selection of drinks and ales, food was good but a little pricey. Would definitely recommend.
