Reviewed 11 June 2012

Stayed there in April 2012. Had wonderful experience and enjoyed our stay. Hotel staff very good. Breakfast was amazing. Affiliated with Golden Sands Hotel next door. Numerous pools to choose from. Night markets outside your door. Cheap eatery approx 400 metros from hotel in outdoor food court. Huge variety of food selections and very very cheap prices. Decor not flash but food awesome.
Had a great time and will return again. Highly recommended.

Upon checking into the Rasa Wing we found out that our room faced the car park, so my husband upgraded us to a deluxe garden view room on the ground floor. Initially I wasn’t happy at forking out more money as this resort is pricey to begin with, but in the end it was all worthwhile.

Our 15 month old was able to explore our private garden and we were peace of mind that he was safe and couldn’t get out the back gate. The back gate also gave us a short cut to the Rasa Wing Lounge for daily High Tea (one of the highlights of my stay!) cocktails and hors d'oeuvres which are all provided free when staying in the Rasa Wing.

The food at both restaurants is lovely, a huge breakfast selection at Spice Market. We ended up at Feringgi Grill most mornings as it was quieter, although the options are more limited.

The staff couldn’t do enough to make you comfortable and feel welcome especially Chan and Goonah at the bar, nothing was too much trouble for them.

Another highlight was Chi Spa- some of the best treatments I’ve ever had in absolutely beautiful surroundings. Pool was great and nicely shaded. We didn’t use the Rasa Wing (adults only) pool but it looked beautiful.

The resort is so lush, green and tranquil, the heat and humidity really hits you when you venture out onto the street (not that there’s anything to do everything is closed during the day) Even walking through the Golden Sands, the sister resort you can notice the stark difference- from the crowds of people to the lower level of upkeep of the grounds, I was so glad we chose Rasa Sayang.

Now I understand why a lot of people we spoke to come back here again and again. We caught the free shuttle bus to Gurney Plaza a couple of times and went to the Hawkers markets down the road for dinner once but most of the time we were just happy to stay at the resort.

Room Tip: Choose the RASA Wing, well worth it!!!!

The staff are wonderful, our room was cleaned every day except one, well before midday and on the one occasion when we pointed out that it had been done late, there were profuse apologies.
Service in the Rasa lounge was, under the aegis of Leong Ping, superb and the reception and door staff would serve here too if they saw a need to. Food was excellent, from the vast array at breakfast and great service, to afternooon tea, canapes and a choice of three eating places in the evening. Once, when our meal was slightly slow in arriving (and who cares on holiday?), we were all given a complimentary dessert.

NOW.....

I have just read a comment (Feb 2012) giving this hotel 2 stars by a spoiled 30+ who complained that elderly guests sat by torch light at the pool from 6am to ensure that they had loungers. The only elderly person who went early was one woman whose husband was seriously ill and she went early, at 7.30, to have peace and quiet. How this woman who complained saw torchlight at 6am I don't know as this group didn't make it to the pool till about 11 and then wondered why they couldn't get a lounger. The fracas in the lobby was when a younger man looked at an older guest and said, "You're too old for me to fight" and another passed a elderly guest swimming and called her a selfish cow.No wonder someone thought he would be better off in Benidorm!
I myself seldom sat at the pool amd wondered why this woman didn't sit out in the beautiful, spacious grounds.
In my opinion this age group have been given everything they wanted all their spoilt lives except a good grounding in spelling - manor/manner:agest/ageist:there/their.
We have been going to this hotel for years and the food is excellent - maybe this woman prefers burgers and chips!
Who was being ageist with this comment: "their age mixed with acohol.....showed their true colours"? Which were ?? Does she claim to have known them all before this holiday?

Also, for information, it was the more elderly guests who claimed that they wouldn't come back if the 'manners/manors' of young folk were going to spoil their holiday.

It was one of the older guests who asked the management to intervene, not the younger ones whose only answer to being denied something they wanted was to make loud, nasty comments.

I hope she doesn't ever stay at this chain again (was this a threat or a promise?) as until her and her peers' arrival there has never, while I was there, been such an unpleasant atmosphere.

Grow up and don't expect everything to go your way!

Room Tip: We stayed in a premier room twice, tried the wee garden room and have settled on the cheapest room i...

We have visited this hotel repeatedly and it never fails to impress. The Rasa Wing is well worth the extra cost, mainly due to the Rasa Wing pool, high tea and pre-dinner drinks/canapés The rooms are nice, but are now in need of some refurbishment, although the TVs have been replaced with new flat screen ones. What makes this hotel stand out from the rest is the level of customer service; it is amazing, and is to a standard I have yet to experience anywhere else. Mr Chan delights all who visit the Rasa Wing and the attention to detail and anticipation of need is second to none. Breakfast in the Ferringgi Grill is a treat and again the service is excellent. All of the staff here are a credit to the Shangri La group and hotels in the West could learn an awful lot with regards customer service from this establishment.
