Our last trip here was 4 years ago and we loved it, however the resort is showing its age now and room was dated and musty smelling. Staff were all very friendly, but never seemed to get anything done. If we asked for towels or housekeeping services, we were greeted with a smile, but no action. Also, the restaurant has changed now and although beautiful in decor, the food was way overpriced and not worth it for what you received. The good thing is that there are plenty of places to eat nearby and walk to.

Nice accommodations. Some of the staff cannot understand English, yet respond as if they do.

We only ate continental breakfast here, as it was covered in booking. Same food every day, and coffee is very weak. Our mistaken one lunch, was $136 USD, and was not good.

Caught fresh barracuda for the chef to make ceviche, and snapper, which we asked to lightly pan fry. Barracuda had little to no lime (their house -provided shrimp ceviche had plenty). When we requested lime, as is required for ceviche, they said they had NONE. REALLY? We went to get some from their cocktail bar, but it was beyond repair.

The poor snappers looked to be deep fried, and were ruined. We hate to see anything wasted.

At check in, we asked for a room upgrade, and were surprised to get one. Upon learning the name of our original suite, we looked at it. It appeared to be much nicer, so we asked Darwin, the only true communicator, why? He showed us the original room, in the Colonial Building, and remarked that the rooms get complaints for mold, so he switched us. We feel badly for the family now staying there.

Plenty of other good places to eat, at a much better price. Lucky Lobster, Chef Rob’s, Loggerhead, Love on the Rocks.

Also, we had a dangerously sharp piece of shower drain, and had to be careful not to step on it.

When we checked out, the manager had removed all charges, save the room cost. They were very ashamed.

The site would not let me rank service, but it was not very dependable.
Good on cleanliness.
Nice location, but know that the main street in unpaved, and very dusty. Better to shower after dinner.

We spent 5 nights and would definitely return. Here’s some basics: Resort is 10 minutes down the dirt road from Hopkins; next to Belizian Dreams and Hanamasi. We had the hotel arrange airport transport from Belize City via Mayan Air. 15 minute flight, better than the 2+ hour drive. Stayed in the Veranda room which was a good spot. Walk out on the beach from a private patio with chaise lounges. Roomy; king size bed and 2 twin Murphy beds.
We ate all our meals at the hotel so we did the meal plan. Food was consistently good; limited menu but with daily specials there was always something new and tasty. There were other restaurants nearby if you want options; for us, the convenience of the hotel was unbeatable. Note: you can order lunch at the pool bar and they’ll bring it out. That wasn’t clear at first.
We booked some tours through the hotel: Xunantunich and Cahal Pech. Took all day but was worth it. Lots of history and the guide was helpful with local culture and knowledge on the drive up and back. Half day snorkeling; left from the hotel pier. Allowed roughly two hour-long dives. Again, staff was helpful and friendly; snorkeling was great. Sitee River cruise was a little disappointing, but mainly because we did a similar trip with Happie Go Lucky (much better).
Here’s the downsides but keep them in perspective-there’s always problems if that’s what you’re looking for. Seaweed came in pretty steadily the last couple of days. Hotel was raking it up but just too much to keep up. Service in the restaurant was slow. But... remember where you are. You’re here to relax ... so just slow down and enjoy the experience. If you’re in a hurry you’re in the wrong place. There was some confusion over what drinks are included in the meal plan. There’s a meal plan and a drinking plan. Make sure you know exactly what you want.
Summary: this is just the kind of low-key out-of-the way place we wanted. Super friendly folks; overall great experience. If you expect the Four Seasons with that level of service, accommodations, and price: go find one of those.

My family really enjoyed our time at Almond Beach Resort. The resort is not crowded and located right on the beach. Free use of kayaks, sail boats, and paddle boards is included in the stay. All of the staff at this resort are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast and dinner were included with our rate. There was a special each night for dinner which helped avoid ordering the same things off the menu each night. We rented two rooms - Sapra and Sandia - both rooms were large, clean, and had great views of the ocean and pool area. Our family really enjoyed our vacation here!

The resort is nice, and the people are very friendly. However, most of the staff needs more training. There is little consistency in information. When we asked basic questions, we got a different answer from each person. Front desk staff were unable to answer simple things such as when the shuttle leaves for the airport, what is the process for the towel tags, etc The room we were given had a significant mold odor when the AC was set higher than 65 degrees F. By morning, both of us had stuffy heads and coughs from the mold. When we asked that we be moved, two employees commented that they had also smelled the mold. It took over three hours for us to be moved to our new room. Since neither of us wanted to go back in the moldy room, we sat on the patio even though it rained part of the time. I hope it was cleaned before the next guest were put in there. Service in all aspects was slow and often confused. Darwin did an excellent job, and became our go-to person when we needed an answer.
Also - be aware there are few handrails on stairs. It is difficult for elderly or handicapped people to get around in this resort

Room Tip: Lots of construction going on. When booking a room, check to make sure you will not be next door to the new buildings they are adding.
