As others have said, if you are in one of the apartments nearest the road and you're a light sleeper it's a bit noisy even at night but take ear plugs and you'll be fine! We had a lovely spacious apartment, the staff are all very friendly and accommodating and it's a great base to explore Western Crete.

There was a hiccup in the booking which meant we had to switch apartments at the end, but Constantinos made the changeover smooth, and we had a lovely breakfast on the last day as compensation...thanks Constantinos!

If you want to make Plantanias your base, but don't want one of the faceless hotels, this is a great choice. Each time when you open the door from the main street and into the beautiful gardens (whilst looking at the characterless - but I'm sure awesome - huge complex next door, and if quiet, characterful accommodation even in the midst of tourist-central, with great staff who report being treated well by their employer is your type of thing, you'll know you've made the right choice!)

Thank you for your kind words and recommendation. I would like to say that we have done a lot to eliminate noise from the street, i.e. we have built a wall surrounding the hotel with sound proof insulation, we have plants that block the noise in the front and all our window panels are double and soundproof. Therefore, people stayong in numbers 1 and 2 which are located in the front building do not have noise from the street unless they wish to sleep with their windows open. In this case I admit that we do have some noise. However if you close the windows there is no noise from the street. This is the main reason why many of our repeater guests specifically ask to be given maisonnettes number 1 or number 2. I just wanted to add this clarification. Kind regards,
Constantinos

We stayed at Proimos Maisonettes for our family holiday with our two children (aged 9 & 6).

The location was great, just a very short walk to the beach. While it was on the edge of town, this meant it was a bit quieter but restaurants and amenities were very close (e.g. a Lidl supermarket 200m away).

We stayed in apartment #1 which had two large bedrooms and plenty of outside space. The rooms are functional and clean with air conditioning if you need it - everything you would want. The kitchen is small but practical and suitable for preparing simple meals.

The pool was perfect size for our children who spent many hours in it!

Constantinos and the whole staff team were incredibly friendly, welcoming and helpful. The Greek night they hosted was a great opportunity to try local food and meet fellow guests.

We would thoroughly recommend Proimos Maisonettes for families or couples of any age.

The complex, which comprises a dozen or so maisonettes/apartments is well kept and the owner, Constantinos is welcoming and informative, as are all of the staff.
The pool is pretty well maintained and the poolside bar provides reasonably priced snacks and drinks. Constaninos was always ready to fix any problems (loose shower, broken bed etc) and gave us great advice regarding trips etc....even arranging them for us!
We occupied No 1 which was a 2 bedroomed apt having the advantage of a terrace at the front which we used for the occasional bbq. The downside of No 1 is that it is directly adjacent to the extremely busy main road so noise can be a big problem as the road is used as a bit of a racetrack.
Platanias itself is NOT a quaint little Cretan village.....it's a busy tourist strip with all of the bars and restaurants that demands.....don't try and find authentic Greek food here. It is however very convenient as there is a regular bus service which you can use to go into Chania. This is a great little town at any time of the day and which provides all of the authentic Greek tavernas, squares, markets etc etc that Platanias lacks.
Platanias does have a great beach and the prospect of seeing Loggerhead turtles is a real plus!

Room Tip: No 1 has a useful terrace, good for bbqs etc BUT is next to the very busy main road.

Dear guest,

thank you for your recommendation. I am very glad that you had a good holiday. It is true that maisonnette number 1 is the closest to the road but besides the south terrace that it has, it also disposes two more northern terraces and one northern balcony. I am sure that if you used any of those you would have a diiferent opinion about the noise of the street, for, there, you do not hear it as much as you do in the southern terrace. As for the food, I am glad that you had a good experience with meals but what each of us terms with "authentic Greek cuisine" varies. I would gladly give you a recommendation where to go if you wanted to savor Greek cuisine as I give such recommendations to all our inquisitive travellers. Sometimes it is good to take tips from the locals, especially regaridng food. Thank you again and we hope to accommodate you again in the future.

Me and my partner went to Crete for the first time and were looking for a smaller and more personal accomodation close to Chania.
Proimos Maisonnettes has been the perfect choice.
The staff couldn't be nicer, the appartments are perfect either for couples or families (balconies, kitchen with fridge & oven, comfortable bedrooms, etc.) and the location... Just a minute walk to the beach, 20 minutes by car to Chania and you will find lots of shops (i.e. Lidl), car rental (Avis) & restaurants in the neighbourhood of the apartments.
The only thing: If you are a light sleeper and need to have the window open the close location to the street can be a little bit disturbing during the night. However, this also depends on the location of the apartment (ours was #9).
If you are looking for some more privacy, the property offers a spacious pool, many sunbeds and a small bar, where you can get cold drinks as well as some small snacks to eat.
We would also like to take this opportunity and thank the team for the lovely "Greek Evening". It gave us the possibilty to try some local food and get to know other guests from many different countries. It's been a great experience and we were very impressed about Eva's cooking skills.
To cut a long story short - we would definitely come back and recommend this beautiful island of peace to friends & family.

Dear Rena,

thank you for your excellent review and recommendation of Proimos Maisonnettes. As our hotel is small it depends on reviews like yours to continue to be on the market. Therefore I would like to extend the thanks of the entire Proimos Maisonnettes team to you. We enjoyed your stay here too and you are always welcome to Proimos Maisonnettes. Kind regards and best of luck!

What I loved was the down home feel of this complex. Everything is set up as small apartments, keeping modern conveniences but still in traditional Cretan surroundings.
The staff is wonderful, there is a pool and a cantina in the back to get breakfast, a beer or just to hang by the pool. The property backs up to the sea so no more than a three minute, easy walk to the beach.

One of the best things is that this property is towards the end of Platanias so there is no noise but you still are in the heart of everything.

The owners are frequently on site and that is evident in the care of the surroundings.
Is this a 5 Star LUXURY resort? No. It isn't supposed to be.

It is authentic, very comfortable and I can't wait to return.

Room Tip: The rooms are all great with courtyards and YESSS Good wifi!
