Another place to show your National Trust card for a discount. Beautiful gardens of spender, something for everyone. Don't forget to visit the cafe in the Greenhouse.

We are always skeptical of visiting old residences turned museum attractions because inevitably, there are rooms if not floors where you do not get to visit. It's sort of a half experience. Not so, at Villa Carlotta. First, the ferry is an easy jaunt to the villa and comes every 20 minutes or so. Go early. The tour of the gardens can take you around 2 hours, so plan accordingly. I suggest that if the crowds are light when you arrive, you go directly into the villa itself. The balcony with floor to ceiling french doors on the 2nd level gives you a breathtaking photo op. Be sure to notice the plant markers as you make your way - some really amazing plantings and trees. The bamboo garden was my favorite. For the price, it is an amazing experience. When you are done, hop on the ferry to Varenna to catch some lunch, you won't regret it.

We visited four of the villas cum gardens along Lake Como. This was the best of an outstanding lot. The garden is really more of an arboretum with trees imported from all over the world. There are flower gardens throughout. The villa is interesting architecturally and has an interesting collection inside. It has its own ferry landing that can be easily reached from the nearby towns of Varenna and Belagio.

Beautiful gardens, great views from many different platforms including levels within the villa. Take the time to walk through the various different types of garden areas. Take the old fashioned lift in the villa up to the top level and take the stairs down between the levels so you can experience the old time lift. Great artworks and artefacts throughout the museum. Try and avoid peak times when there are large buses of tourists coming through with their guides as it ruins the tranquil atmosphere. 10€ each. Street parking is tricky so possibly go early.

Visited Villa Carlotta with my mother for her birthday in August. The villa has many rooms to explore across different floors, with cultural and historical decor and artefacts. The English and Italian gardens are absolutely beautiful, set against stunning views of the lake.
Well worth a visit!
Two words of warning: it can be difficult to park by Villa Carlotta and there is a lot of walking to explore the gardens so be sure to wear comfortable footwear!
