Don't be fooled by the modest exterior of the Osteria Vecchio Scodella. If you're looking for good quality Italian cooking at modest prices this is one for you! we went there last week as a group of nine Brits . . none of whom speaks Italian. We were given a warm welcome by the owner, a young man who could not do enough for us. He speaks more than passing English, knows his menu and needs no notes to tell you what's on it. He was also most helpful in offering something alternative for one of us who is gluten intolerant. The food is delicious, beautifully cooked and unpretentious. Instead of a bill we got a quiet word from the owner to the host of our party to say how much was due. The quality of the man was such that we trusted him to be right, and paid what was a very modest sum for such good fare. An additional bonus is a large (free) public car park immediately opposite the restaurant (next to the church). We shall go here again if we find ourselves anywhere on the southern outskirts of Florence.
