From the gentle and happy greeting from the lady at reception to the beautiful room and ambience of this hotel you will not be disappointed. The food was fresh and flavoursome and served beautifully. All the staff we encountered were happy and so helpful. Cowbridge is a lovely town and one I will definitely visit again and yes absolutely will stay here again.

Nestled in the heart of Cowbridge, of the M4, this beautiful hotel is bigger than it looks from the outside with its own parking in the back. Lovely charming grounds. Spacious rooms & super friendly staff.

Very Friendly and very welcoming hotel
Staff are helpful and the general atmosphere is welcoming.
There is a large car park behind the hotel and the hotel is in the middle of the town.
They have good disabled access for a hotel with as much charm and history.

My family and I visited the Bear for a Sunday lunch. It gets busy so best to book ahead. I have two small children (18 months, twins) and one is severely allergic to dairy.
The quality of the food is excellent, great roast potatoes, lovely homemade gravy and well-cooked vegetables.
The dining area is divided into 3 main areas, we were in the left bar (I forgot to check what it was called). It's a well-proportioned and beautifully decorated room, great to sit down there and relax (not that you can relax with 2 small children and a Grumpywife[TM].
A special shout out must go to the staff though. Everyone is friendly and extra helpful. A big thank you to Nathan, who specifically went and had a word with the chef to make sure there wouldn't be any dairy cross-contamination for my son (buttered carrots, etc). Thanks also to the chef and kitchen staff for sending us 2 lots of vegetables (one dairy free!).
The Bear really do one of the best Sunday dinners in the local area, I would highly recommend!

An easy drive from Cardiff. Cowbridge is a historical market town with much to offer the day tripper, with antique and other shops, pubs (I counted 4, there must be more) and restaurants as well as interesting walks in the countryside nearby. We had a light lunch at the Bear Hotel in the very cozy bar. To illustrate just how much of a market town we were in, the conversation at the next table was about "a milking parlour for 100 cows". The Bear Hotel has 33 rooms and will appeal to those visitors interested in local quaintness, as its location dates back to the 12th century, its history including a stage post on the mail run from Cardiff to Swansea.

Room Tip: The Bear Hotel oozes local quaintness as it dates back to the 12th century and was once a stage post on the run from Cardiff to Swansea.
