Zenobi is a fabulous place to spend a lazy day, as we did ..... it not a place to go in a hurry because you will not appreciate the beautiful scenery, and the delicious and refined morsels in front of you. Starting from the bread basket we noted there was some wholemeal and cornmeal bread as well as white. We shared the antipasto which included top quality cured meats (apart from the raw sausage which we did not think was up to the standard, maybe it could be replaced with ventricina) and a selection of hot appetisers. The caponata was outstanding as well as the pureed pumpkin. For primi we chose the vegetarian baked white timballo and the ceppe pasta in tomato and mini meatball sauce; then we shared a tagliata with roast potatoes. Everything was cooked as we wished, full of flavour and well presented. The shared main was so abundant that we could not finish it. We then waited a while and decided to share a tiramisu, which was excellent. To be in an "osteria" we found details such as fine linen and extensive wine list (with labels from almost all of the Italian regions). The bathrooms were also very spacious and spotless.
The service was friendly and efficient. Marcello and his lady assistant handled the increasing numbers of guests (usually without reservation) very smoothly. With all this food and a bottle of wine from Puglia the total cost of our bill was 55 Euro, which made our 146 km return journey by car still very competitive with other places closer to us. The osteria is approximately 7 kms from A14 Val Vibrata exit. We hope to return soon.
