We stayed here for Christmas and New Year 2015/2016 for a 10 days holiday. The hotel is situated in a bay which was considered to be a pirate's cove in the former times.
What you should know about the place - as per its description - it is an Eco Resort nestled in the nature and "cooperating" with the nature. It is probably not a 5 star luxury hotel, it is simpler, but it really offers a lot more than a self catering place. It is perfect for families, couples or sun downers.

We arrived a bit early as we came on a night flight, however there were no problems during check in, the welcome and check in was handled nicely. We are able to have our room before the check in time.
The area of the hotel is nice, green and large - big garden area. All houses are facing the sea.

The rooms are spacious and well equipped. The equipment in the rooms makes a slightly dated impression, but as I understand there is a refurbishment going on. But especially in the kitchen you find absolutely everything you need if you plan to cook etc.
Recommendation: since the place is not that close to the next grocery shops I have a small tip: if you get a pick up from the jetty or from the airport just ask the driver to stop at one of the shops, there are plenty on the way which might keep you going for couple of days.
Bathroom was clean, even equipped with a bidet.
Some of the houses have air con, maybe good to check in advance what type of house you would like to chose, ours had a fan in the bed room. The fan was sufficient enough, just bit loud sometimes, but we got used to it. Since it is cooler to keep the windows open at night the mosquito net is more important anyways.
The rooms are cleaned daily which also includes washing of the dishes etc. Great service!
Each house has a nice large veranda facing the sea with enough space to sit, relax and dry all wet clothes (sufficient stand to hang clothes is provided).

The pool of the hotel in my opinion adds big value to the place. The beach just in front of the hotel is not ideal for swimming, however it is great to spot some wildlife such as small stingrays and reef sharks, which are harmless. However if you would want to enjoy the beach the hotel offers kayaks for free. Just about 5 mins of paddling and you will reach small lonely beaches, alright to swim or just to hide away. Definitely need to try that!
The pool is serviced by restaurant and a bar. The whole pool deck is a perfect place to watch the sun going down and see the stars coming out, really stunning!
Recommendation: If you are at the bar and the manager is around ask for his recommendation, he always magically has a nice drink to taste on hand. Really enjoyed that.
The restaurant offers great, fresh food. We normally had seafood. For Christmas and new years a buffet with several roast etc. was offered. The prices of most the meals are slightly on the higher end, but you also find some items in the menu at a fair price. I recommend the seafood options, especially the whole grilled fish.

Small down side here is maybe that the hotel charges for the Wifi in the bar and restaurant area. I am sure more guests would mingle around here more often if it was free.

If you plan some day trips, need taxi service or want to hire a car the receptionist always can help to arrange it. If you need a rental car check in advance, as the availability of cars on the island is limited. We got one for 3 days which is quite sufficient to discover the whole place.

The hotel is family owned and managed. During your stay you might have the possibility to meet them. IT is a lovely family putting a lot of effort into this hotel which you truly can feel.
We enjoyed our stay, we can recommend this place and we also would return here.

Our bungalow was fine with a balcony overlooking the bay. Lots of birds and wildlife and very restful. It was self-catering but the nearest shops are over a mile away so you need a car or can take a bus. They do not have bike hire which was a pity as you can ride to the nearest town about 4km where the road is flat.
On booking it was not clear that you had to ask for a bungalow with AIR Con- and there are only 5 with this on offer. We had a mosquito net so could open the windows but it was very difficult to sleep at night. Not all the bungalows had nets so one couple complained about the lack of AC. One of the staff members who ran the poolside bar was very friendly and knowledgeable but the woman who appeared to run the place made no attempt to talk to our family members. There was quite a lot of pressure to sign up to the New Year buffet and we agreed which was a mistake. The food was very poor and at £150.00 for 2 terrible value. IT was the worst food we had during our holiday We left at 9.00 as did most of the other guests.
We spend 5 day here out of 15 in total and their prices in the restaurant and for drinks were the highest of all the 3 islands we visited. For example there cheapest wine was 550 Sey rupees (£27.50) where the normal cost in other places was 300 -350 rupees. We never saw anyone drinking at the bar or eating in the restaurant. We stayed for 4 night at the hotel Patatran on La Digue where the buffets (400 rupees and wine 450) were much better value.

There business model is all wrong as they are not a high end restaurant with top quality food. They would sell more if they had more realistic prices that reflect their market and customers. This is a critical review because the location is great but what is on offer in terms of facilities, food, drink, bikes etc. is not.

Room tip: ask for one with Air Con and a mosquito net.

Thank you for the review. Iles Des Palmes is an Eco resort. It is an establishment intended for guests who want a nature experience. If a guest is looking for proximity to the Indian shops and traffic there are numerous guest houses that offer this inconvenience. Bike rental and car rental is recommended. A car rental will cost €40.00 - € 50.00 per day. A bike cost € 10.00 - € 15.00 euro per day. We are a remote island destination that relies on Tourism as a Industry. This funds a overall well heeled social welfare structure. Hence guest must not be surprise if Seychelles cost more then Thailand or bali. They are fundamentally different products.
We regret your comments on the New Years Eve Dinner. Many guest found it excellent. No restaurant on Praslin went out of their way to roast a whole pig, serve a whole 15 kilo Red snapper cooked to perfection, of what is perhaps the Best Fish in the World. If you were unhappy with the service, as a person of class, you should have approached the Lady you mentioned, and highlight the issues, she would have given you the dinner for free, because she is an that kind of special person. Dissing a award Winning Restiarant, which is the pride of Seychellois community on tripadvisor is not how you address a issue during your stay. There are five villas with ac. The reason for this is simple: Supply and Demand. Many guest do not want to pay for a premium room. We find this common in today's travelers. Guest that request ac rooms can have it. It is a matter of choice. Finally, on restaurant prices vs. Pataran. We serve chile wine and French Wine. Pataran serves South African and Australian wines. Hence the variance of SCR. 100.00 in your gripe. We do fine dining, in the evenings, not buffets of food prepared hours before you decide you would like to dine out. Thank you.

Thank you so much for a comment and review that captures the heart of Iles Des Palmes. We are an large Eco village today, with bungalows detached for couples, honeymooners, families and pool Restuarant facilities and taxi boat on site, along with an array of hiking and snorkeling options not far from the establishment.
We have recently reviewed our pricing for rooms and meals and now offer the best value for both in Praslin. Throughout the week we have lunch specials, cocktail specials . On Saturday and Sunday we offer family specials.
Five rooms are now air conditioned. Another five will be soon.
We are now the only hotel in Praslin to retain a soft Seychelles vanacular with all our furnishings made right here at Iles Des Palmes.

We did a 4 day stop over on Praslin in April which coincided with Easter holidays and you can imagine most hotels were full and rather busy especially Mahe. However Iles Des Palmes offered something different and rather unique. The hotel was full but we felt like the only ones there most of the time. The hotel has extensive grounds (park land, arboretum, towering palms, marshland and beach). We used the pool most days which has the most amazing unobstructed views of a bay called Baie St Anne... Best spot for star gazing on an evening whilst sipping on JD Tennesse Honey Whiskey (recommended by Chris the owner) who is always on hand for a chat :)...

The estate is teeming with wild life. There are kayaks should you wish to explore the bay and discover pristine little hidden beaches and mingle with gentle bay sharks!!

We had dinner in the restaurant which overlooks the pool and bay. I must say, it is one of the best views in the world. They have an impressive wine list with selections of Chilean, South African, Australian and European wines: something for everyone. Try the whole grilled fish, it is as fresh as it comes...

The lovely Mauritian receptionist organised a hire car for us to visit places of interest on Praslin like Anse Lazio which is a must.

We did plan to go to La Digue, however the deck chairs right in front of the bungalow looking out to see were just too appealing to leave!

Iles Des Palmes is a must especially as it is so reasonably priced compared to other, less tranquil, less natural and less unspoilt places to stay on Praslin.

Room tip: Pool bar in the evening a must for stargazers

On behalf of all our professional, kind hearted staff, I would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for a review that places Iles Des Palmes fairly, accurately where the establishment belongs: in the category of excellence.
The new expansion of the massive ocean side sun deck, pool ,restaurant, Coco De Mer Lounger, Bar has been a fantastic hit with all our guests and walk in clients during the day. Along with our large bungalows, careful attention to detail, expansive space out doors, our establishment today, is an exceptional product that trumps all guest houses and hotels alike on the market in Praslin.
Our restaurant La Buse offers the best meals and attention to detail service, whether you have a La Buse Burger, hand crafted, or a fresh melody of seafood platter to tempt your taste buds. Our drinks are well priced for Seychelles,
Our new product, the Honeymoon suites are on line now with air conditioning, new furniture, queen size poster beds, glorious nets, as requested by some guests. This is another innovation which allows honeymooners to experience lovely Seychelles at very competitive prices, and the bungalow is comparable to a five star product without the price. The honey moon dinners, are of course beyond expectations.
Those not lucky to book at Iles Des Palmes, are welcome for lunch or dinner as guests.

nice place because of the amazing view and pool. And staff's friendly.
Restaurant pretty expensive and quiet compared to others we've seen somewhere else on the island. Breakfast you better make in your own kitchen., no need to spend 30,- euro's for 2 people for some fruit, few small pieces of toast, an egg, tea OR ;-) coffee, OR juice...However, there were some funny rules when it came to the decisions we've had to make for either breakfast or diner sometimes. But all good, we've had a great time. Friendly people, nice environment, what else could we wish for...o yeah, last but not least, the home made lemon juice was amazing.

Room tip: Chalets on the back of the premises are nice and quiet.

Thank you for taking time to place a comment for Iles Des Palmes Eco Resort. The family beach bungalows are set along Anse Takamaka. It is a wonderful setting for access to virtually an exclusive beach. The tide level makes it safe for children, who can play under huge trees in the sand all day. The pool side offers food and beverage services. We do ask as any establishment would to not bring out side food or beverages to this area. We are an Eco resort in Seychelles, not a camp site . Our prices are very competitive for excellent quality meals. We do not serve reheated food. All our meals are fresh, prepared single handedly by a retired Executive Chef. This year the awards have been coming again as last year, starting with the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence 2015 received only three days ago. This comes on the heels of the launching of our Honeymoon suites ideal for couples who want a Seychelles- Praslin ( honeymoon destination) experience without breaking into the bank. We encourage early bookings, and contact us directly for special requests. Thank you again for a fair comment. It helps to spread the word, of the excellence and unique product of Iles Des Palmes Eco Resort on Praslin, Seychelles preferred island of choice for discerning travelers.
