The lighthouse is on a peninsula at the beginning of La Manga strip. There's a large car park and small beach bar type cabin near the entrance - you can't drive right up to the lighthouse (not sure why as the access road is tarmaced and there's plenty of parking around the base) but it's an easy walk. Not sure if the lighthouse is manned - I saw a car drive up and occupants unlock the door. However, it's not open to general visitors which is a shame as I suspect the views would be better than from around the base - there's not much to actually see other than views out to sea and along the main La Manga strip plus PADI divers practising from the small cove below. Personally I don't think it's worth making a detour here and the surrounding area of Cape Palos looks neglected and shabby.

I personally was quite disappointed with the lighthouse, but is worth the visit. Nice view of La Manga and from what was explained obviously one of the best places to dive in Spain. The lighthouse itself isn't opened for visitors, so it doesn't look much from outside, but offers good views from the platform outside.

The view is stunning, especially if you go here at sunrise or sunset with the Lighthouse bathing in warm colors. If you are at La Manga, or close to it, you should take a look at this place!

You can drive to the carpark under the lighthouse so no long walks. The walk from the carpark is a breeze. The lighthouse itself is very impressive as are the views around. Unfortunately the lighthouse is not open to the public which is a great shame and somebody is missing out on a nice earner....
However we did see some people at the top when on our way back down, friends of the keeper I assume. Well worth a visit if you are in the area but don't go out of your way.

We were very dissapointed with the dirt in the streets. In the afternoon at around 17 o'clock we couldn´t find a bar with a draft beer.
