I cannot describe fully how wonderful our stay here was. Our perfect villa had the most amazing view across the river and into primary rainforest. The swallows danced and swooped across our view, as we sat in our infinity pool and gazed in awe at this precious and beautiful place.

Our accommodation was equipped with everything from walking poles to binoculars, the mini bar was thoughtfully stacked with soft drinks and isotonic refreshments, the little jars of edible natural treats. Food at the main lodge was freshly prepared, varied with multiple choices. and beautifully presented.

The staff stood out for me. First and foremost our amazing guide Farah – whose attention to detail and expert knowledge were the key thing that perfected our visit. She guided us through the rainforest as we followed orangutans mothers and infants, showed us incredible birds and insects, and told us about the plants, trees and eco-system. We even walked through the river, up to our knees at times, which was an incredible experience. Oh, and not to forget the amazing night walks! I should add that without exception, all of the staff here are skilled, thoughtful, helpful and friendly doing everything they can to make our stay perfect.

If there is one thing that I would change, it would be the introductory talk. It focussed on visiting other Borneo locations yet almost everyone listening was on a carefully planned itinerary. Use that time wisely to talk about the wonderful place we are in and what it offers instead. After all, that’s what we were all there for.

I’ve been lucky to have had some amazing wildlife experiences but this one will remain with me for the rest of my life – it was truly beyond words – completely amazing!

We stayed in the Jungle lodge for 3 days. Room spacious and airy with a large balcony. Despite the room being on the main road to and from the lodge it was quiet and restful.

Areas surrounding the lodge - plentiful with seating and viewing areas.

Our guide Messi provided indepth commentary on the wildlife and birds and enjoyed working with tourists. We enjoyed our experience.

Resturant facilities- marvellous choices and a beautiful setting.

I am giving 4 stars due to the fact that I was very unwell with the road journey - fellow travellers were all well.

We had three nights at Borneo Rainforest Lodge as part of a Sabah itinerary prepared for us by Sticky Rice Travel and without being melodramatic, it was one of the best three days we have ever spent! We stayed in a Premium Deluxe room (absolutely worth it - a gorgeous room and a stunning view of the rainforest) and were lucky enough to have AK as our private guide. AK was fantastic - he was incredibly good at spotting birds, animals, insects, frogs and so knowledgeable (and good at sharing his knowledge) about the forest and about Sabah. He made an already very good holiday spectacular. We also spent a fascinating afternoon with the environmental sustainability team (Mr Calixtus and Mr Faiz) who told us and showed us some of the ways in which the hotel is increasing the sustainability of its operations. I don't think their presentation is in the standard programme (AK helped to arrange as we were asking about it due to our professional interests), but it is highly recommended as not only is the work they are doing very interesting but they themselves are wonderful and inspiring ambassadors for the practicalities of sustainable tourism. I could write pages and pages about the delights of this gorgeous place - every staff member we interacted with was warm and helpful, the surroundings are unparalleled, the nature awe-inspiring, the food delicious, the accommodation absolutely beautiful and the overarching mission (to allow sustainable and educational access to virgin rainforest to tourists) so well executed. Congratulations to everyone involved in creating and running BRL - I will treasure the memories and hope that perhaps one day I can come again to this little piece of heaven!

Room tip: Premium Deluxe room is very very beautiful - well worth the extra

I stayed two nights at BRL in a standard lodge that was very nice, great size, clean although dim lighting if you’re a reader. The staff are friendly and welcoming.

The reception started off in Ladah Datu where a Covid RAT was required before entering the lodge, unexpected when turned up to the office.

Be prepared for the 2.5 hour bumpy off-road drive into the lodge, and keep watch for wildlife during the journey in/out.

The accommodation includes buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner, all which offer a large range of tasty food to cater for all taste requirements. The balcony for eating has stunning views of the rainforest and river below. Keep an eye out for movement in the trees opposite at any stage for primates.

The BRL is the perfect location to explore Danum Valley’s natural environment with many walks and wildlife on offer
