My husband and I spent several hours at the tunel and beach this morning. We saw a large iguana, and several small salimanders. Walked along the beach, and searched out little creatures (blue crab, urchins, fish) in the tide pools.

This tunnel is a remnant of what was once a railroad line around the island when the rail was used to carry sugar cane from the distant farms to the processing facility. We could see one end of the tunnel from where we stayed for our vacation so we had an idea of how to get there. From Hwy 2 on the northwest side of the island, look for the signs to Isabella, park in the parking area, get a Coco Frio for the walk and proceed to the tunnel. The tunnel is dark and there is a long walkway along the ocean before getting to another beach entrance. We chose to turn around so didn't see the second beach area but the beach by the parking was very nice with palm trees and shade.

This place is simply beautiful - it is definitely worth the trip. If you rent a car there it is a hour and a half drive from San Juan. I highly recommend that on a GPS you avoid highways and make pit stops at some local beaches where you can get in the water. The current around the tunel is very strong and wouldn't recommend getting in the water - however the scenery is beautiful.

Tip: if you can find your self a little pool of water or a lagoon id definitely recommend it. Make sure to get there early as it gets really creepy around the evening. There is free parking available but no real food option.
