A cool place to mooch around - very close to both port and town - Quiet worth a visit as views from top are good.
A working port town made famous as the fictional town of Vigata in the Inspector Montalbano novels by Andrea Camilleri. The 16th century Tower Fort of The Bourbon King, Charles V, at the harbour end of Via Roma is worth a visit, the scene of an unfortunate massacre. There was a sculpture exhibition when we were there: the gallery rooms make the most of the interesting spaces within the tower. There’s also Inspector Montalbano’s bronze statue and a large sandy beach. Not sure that there’s much more to see.
Sometimes this sight is used as museum, not during our stay in Porto Empedocle, but is really beautiful to see. Close to the port and the city center is a nice place where to stay waiting the ship to go in Lampedusa
