Average Resort.
The Staff are friendly and it is in general a nice average Resort.
But... There are no information in english.
Only dutch is available.
Free Wifi was a part of our stay but it was all most non excesting an not om the 1. floor.
The pool is very old and there is no posibility for a private bath because the is no wall to screen for The baby pool.

Not a hotel, more of a modestly sized holiday park but with a large range of accommodation running from a handful of mobile homes through wooden chalets to luxury duplex and detached brick builds, some complete with their own indoor pool. Think small Center Parcs with luxury options

The resort doesn't actively seek out visitors from the UK - or further afield than the Netherlands and Germany for that matter. No other translations on their website, no menu translations, in fact the only English writing I saw was the swimming pool rules.
Consequently if you're reading this in English you may well be the same as me - booked in as part of an organised tour - in our case my son's football team in Holland for an international tournament. You will notice the odd grumble below, let me say at the outset that our boys were almost astonishingly well behaved, OK it surprised us a little but there was no bad behaviour at all. Perhaps all the football wore them out. However, the minor episodes of unfriendliness we experienced certainly couldn't have been in reaction to our behaviour.

So, what to expect?

We arrived exhausted having travelled overnight at about 1pm on a Friday and the place was virtually deserted. However, the management wouldn't let us into our Chalets until three. This was sheer jobsworth bloody mindedness - we knew our accommodation numbers and could see our chalets and there were no frantic cleaning crews trying to get them ready, they were empty and probably had been all week. Nul points for the welcome. Maybe it would be worth negotiating in advance for at least one chalet for changing, luggage etc if you expect to arrive before three.

We were in 6 bed wooden chalets, small bedrooms; one twin, one double(single mattresses & linen) and one with bunk beds with a sort of L shaped overlap. Adequate kitchen with microwave, dishwasher and gas hob, all utensils etc. Good sized living space, TV with the odd UK channel and DVD player.

Nice pool indoors and a swimming lake with beach, also a fishing lake - not visited so can't comment. Bikes and pedal karts for hire at reasonable rates. A surprisingly well stocked little supermarket for the size of the resort. A basement games room with darts and table tennis (mind you the boys were kicked out at 10pm because that's when it closed. Rules, you know...

We encountered our second jobsworth in the restaurant. The boys who had ordered pizzas from the menus provided then had them delivered to the bar area out the back of the restaurant. It was 'against the rules' to eat pizzas in the restaurant, no matter that we were given menus showing pizza. Yes we could carry (ourselves) our a la carte food to that section and join them if we wanted, but not vice versa. Petty rules applied for no good reason in a restaurant that only had two other tables occupied. The food was generally of a good standard and while not cheap, avoided silly prices. The only duff meal was a pork fillet in mushrooms, it was served very rare - between 'saingant' and 'bleu', the pancetta wrapper hadn't crisped even slightly. However it was the customer who was wrong to complain, getting a longish lecture about pork always being better served rare. Now I know some trendy chefs like to serve pork a little pink sometimes but this was ridiculously undercooked and the staff hadn't the grace to admit they had cocked up. Oh and watch the times, Pizzas etc stop at 8pm and the restaurant at 9.

Friendlier staff in the bar, and a little activity every night if you want to take part - karaoke, darts competition, bingo, that sort of thing.

Overall: A pretty good place to stay as long as you can put up with the occasional bizarre 'rule'. Tranquil, good quality accommodation, generally good food, nice outside bar terrace, indoor bar too. Not much doing for teens, great for families with younger children. If you are organising a sports tour, possibly check out Center Parcs deals first, there are lots in the region and some at Resort Arcen behave like they would probably prefer you stayed there too!
