Out of all the resorts along the famous area and short strip of San Juan, Kahuna has the only one with great and clean pool overlooking the beach too.

They are currently doing some renovation at the front near the bar but this won’t disrupt your dining experience.
There’s a billiard/pool table near the restaurant.

Our family of four stayed here for just under a week and booked their basic Garden View. Granted it was a little pricey for us since we also have to pay for an extra small mattress for an extra php700 per day for our 7 & 8 year olds however, it was clean and the swimming pool makes it worth it as my children loves swimming.

Wifi is fast in the room and bar/restaurant area.
There’s a lock safe in the room.
Room service up until 8pm.
Pool til 10pm.

The room size I would consider were just right for us but others may feel it is smaller.

Some negatives:
The only constructive feedback we had for the room was that the television reception is very bad that you can’t even see the picture clearly. This doesn’t surprise me though since we were in the provinces and it seems to be a common problem.
We have brought a laptop and an HDMI cable for the rainy days so we can watch Netflix however, this was unsuccessful but we were not too stressed.

Another negative experience we had was when we noticed several small spiders nested on my son’s suitcase.
We had to wash all the clothes and sprayed the suitcase. We requested to move rooms as it seems to be living in one spot on a nearby window.
The staff were accommodating of these changes.

It is the wet season being June. It rained most days around 3:30. Sometimes it lasted briefly, other times it was all night. Waves were flat so don’t expect a lot of surfing and lots of jelly fish in the area but you can rent kayak for php400 per hour if you are keen for an activity.

Kahuna restaurant:
We were happy with the service and have been to several places around this area and nothing we hated more when they bring one drink or food at a time and it took ages. Kahuna was fast and brought our food altogether every time which we were very happy about.
My son has autism and very sensitive to flies and sensation and they were very understanding and have placed candles around him every meal we had which helped.
We also liked how you can order from the menu for the complimentary breakfast rather than buffet. This way, we felt the amount of food was controlled and less wastage.

If the restaurant isn’t too busy, you can get a great view looking at the beach area whilst dining.

There’s a shop inside kahuna but mostly souvenir items.

Shops are accessible for some basic necessities and it is walking distance. You can walk through the main roads or beach path and there’s a 7-eleven just a few metres away.

Eating around the area:
Kahuna has great restaurant and food choices but if you want something different, there are a few grill and restaurants on the main road.
Alternatively, the other resorts have their own restaurants and an average price for food ranges between php150-300 per dish.

Near 7-eleven is a laundromat called washaka. It is the best laundromat we’ve ever been to. They are very new and the equipments look very expensive, the place is cosy and they offer php 150 for three beers and munchies!
They don’t go by kilogram but charge per load. Small washing machine they had has an 8-9 kg capacity and each load is around php 140.

If you wanna get away from the area and head towards San Fernando for bigger markets, I’d suggest to take a jeepney and it is very straightforward. Trike will cost you more (php100-150).
There is a shopping centre called csi which is about 5kms from Kahuna.
These transports are easily accessible outside Kahuna.

Overall, we had an amazing time! Will definitely come back here if we visit this place again.
The swimming pool is definitely a best seller and only constructive feedback was the tv reception and be mindful of bugs.

Thanks Kahuna!

Kahuna is one of the few resorts in La Union that has a swimming pool. They even made it better for having an infinity pool and a regular adult pool. The only downside of this resort is that, ordering, preparing and serving your food will take forever so make sure that you place your orders in advance. The room is big and spacious and is ideal for families or big groups traveling to La Union. The resort is also situated in front of the surfing area which is a plus. I will definitely recommend this resort.

Kahuna by word itself means a wise man or shaman, or important person or person in charge or a large wave (in surfing) or big balls, anyway, Kahuna is a cool nice place and sunset view, good food and nice rooms and efficient service

Safe to say that if you want to enjoy a good visit to this surf capital of the north, kahuna beach should be top of your list.but make sure you make a good plan ahead because of limited number of rooms available. If you get one, enjoy it to the fullest. Staff are generally courteous and helpful, with only a few steps going the shoreline, you may also enjoy instead its infinity pool just beside the restaurant area.food are simply delicious but not much extraordinary. The hotel is also a walking distance to every good places to hang out in urbiztondo la union.
