This was def. a great place to stay in Nosara! Food was fantastic, a nice walk to the beach for surfers, close to another fun bar/rest., a small conveinent store...rooms were nice, we had the A.C. room, beds were squeaky, but other than that they were nice, good showers, nice maid service and you felt like home. there were some ants, so bring bugkiller/spray to keep them under control in your bathroom. We felt very safe and people(everyone) left surfboards and towels and clothes outside at night to dry and it was all there in the AM. a lot of good people come hang out there at the bar/pool...we had the best time! Band night was Tuesday, and we had a blast, great music! complimentary coffee in the AM was a nice touch, that really yummy costa rican coffee!

Best location (shortest walk to beach access) in Playa Guiones. Excellent restaurant (a little pricey), cheap/cold beer. Rooms without air con open on three sides floor-to-ceiling with Bermuda shutters, actually cool at night, need blankets provided. Large space, high ceilings, lots of room for surfboards/fishing gear inside rooms.

Howler monkeys can keep you awake on certain nights, extremely annoying. Birds singing for wake up call. Free cats with room.

Staff extraordinarily outgoing and kind. Not jaded by influx of tourists.

Construction work outside our room one day was head-splitting, but, owners gave us a $40 USD credit for dinner without asking as an apology.

Fantastic. Will return without question.

This was a decent place. If we stayed there again, we would make sure to get one of the rooms further away from the bar/resturant. On Turesday nights they have live music (which was a good band) but the entire ex-pat community shows up and if you are looking for an early night to bed, it is pretty much an impossibilty since the drinking and music will keep you up. The second night we stayed there, the noise was much less. There was plenty of hot water and it was close to the beach. For the price we paid, it was a decent place to stay and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. There are better places to stay, but are also much more expensive.

The hotel is a dump, the owners are tying to sell and it needs so much work. Our room was terrible and does not look anything like the pictures (which were maybe accurate in 1975 when they fixed the rooms last). They ruined some of our clothing with their laundry service, which they tried to over charge and also double charge us for. The same terrible smell of food cooking is present at all times and the bar is loud if you are trying to get some sleep for an early day of surfing. Avoid this hotel, it is not even a budget option.

The Gilded Iguana has changed hands as of November 2008, and has improved both the hotel accommodations, laundry service and restaurant. We invite you to come again and give us another try, I think you'll find our staff, food, and service to be outstanding, at least that's what everyone is saying when they leave now!
