Description: Mixalios GRILL HOUSE is a family-owned restaurant that was established in 1999 and offers a wide range of dishes with ingredients that are all locally sourced, either from our own farms in Koufonisia, but also Keros and Naxos. Mixalios, our grandfather, grew up in the neighboring island of Kato Koufonisi, where he still has his farm of goats and sheep. Every day, all through the year, at 5 am, Mixalios takes his boat and goes to Kato Koufonisi to take care of the animals and comes back by sunset. But the family also has goats on the uninhabited island of Keros, where they graze freely. Only one fresh-water well exists on the island, by the shore, and all animals descend every day from the mountains to drink from there. Between May and June, Mixalios and his son, Giannis Prasinos, visit the island early in the morning, place a large flat stone on the well’s opening blocking access to the water, and this allows them to easily capture animals waiting to get a drink! Giannis, the owner of the GRILL HOUSE, also has small farms at Ano Koufonisi, where he feeds his cows, free-range roosters, and pigs. All the animals are fed grain that is grown by Giannis himself on his lands both at Ano and Kato Koufonisi. Anna, our grandmother, makes three types of local cheese, prepared from our own cow and goat milk on a wood fire, using a traditional recipe. We serve xinomizithra, a soft, white, sour cheese, which is light in fat; ladotiri, which is a sharp, hard cheese, aged in oil; and feta. Yiayia Anna, also makes rakomelo, a sweet liqueur with raki, cinnamon and a mixture of honey and sugar. Maria, Gianni’s wife, makes “halva” pastry, which is made with semolina, cinnamon, and syrup. It is topped with her specialty, a “spoon sweet” made with fresh carrots. Enjoy your meal!

Decided to try this place based on other reviews but certainly won't be repeating that mistake.Firstly you have to treck 400m down dark dirt track roads to get there but ok then we were seated in what can only be described as a gravel carpark almost in the dark with someone's dog barking its head off at the stray cats,that set the scene for what was to follow.We ordered our food in the expectation that this would make the previous comments worthwhile,the starters & wine arrived & were quite good,that's when things went wrong,firstly my lamb chops arrived,although nice enough certainly not worth the hike in the dark unfortunately my partners grilled chicken fillets didn't,so I started mine expecting hers to follow in a few minutes,by the time I'd just about finished my food hers was plonked down in front of her without any explanation or apology as to why it was so late.Her first mouthful made it clear, it had clearly been forgotten & left on the grill far to long & had all the succulents of a bit of leather & was totally inedible.At that point we called the waiter for the bill & although when we relayed our disappointment they removed the cost of her meal from the bill unfortunately by then the poor meal & service coupled with the thought of a cross country hike in the dark to get home had ruined the evening,so people be warned

One of the best places to eat, if not the best. Once we found out about this hidden grill house, we thought twice about eating anywhere else.
Big portions and good prices.
The goat dishes are really amazing. One of the island's culinary highlights.
All other cooked dishes are really nice as well.
The grilled meat dishes are also really good; we tried them almost all!
The waiters are friendly and help create a good, welcoming atmosphere.
You must try the local cheeses that will leave you speechless.
The appetisers are tradigional dishes, that are cooked excrptionally well.

Set a little way outside the village, make sure to visit this restaurant if you are a meat lover! We ate there 3 times in under a week and all the meals were top quality! The pork, lamb, goat and steak were all of excellent origin and superbly well cooked. Highly recommended.

We came to the place after the recommendation of a friend..It happens to be Greek and my wife Spanish..!!Amazing meat super friendly staff ,very fast and good service..10 out of 10 to the grill chef..He make us lampchops and was grilled super super nice..I visit Naxos before i come here...But ownestly...NOTHING TO COMPARE..!!If you love meat come and try kontosouvli ,kokoretsi ,lampchops and many other meats with local recipes.. Worth the visit..!!Two things can bring you in Koufonisia ..!!The amazing beaches and Mixalios ..!!

We went twice to Mixalios!
We loved this place for the food quality and origin.
Everything is produced by the family farms and this combined with the cooking experience makes Mixalios food and wine excellent.
We have tasted great lamb chops, pork, veal in the oven (lovely taste of herbs and vegetables cooked together)and a salad (greens) so fresh and genuine!
