After reading the menus at many of the restaurants around the corner from the train station in Assisi, we decided to give Il Cantico a try. We arrived on the early side (6:30), so we were the only people in the restaurant.
The couple who ran the restaurant were so nice. They were very attentive to our needs, but didn't hover. The man was incredibly sweet--he kept on apologizing to us for his broken English, but he actually spoke English very well. He was very sweet and helpful.
We both ordered the dinner special for 13 euro. The first course a large plate of pasta in either Bolognese or marinara sauce. The pasta was excellent--it was perfectly cooked, and the sauce was delicious. For the main course, you had a choice of chicken, pork, or roast beef with potatoes or salad. We both opted for the roast beef with salad. The roast beef was well done in a simple sauce seasoned with salt and pepper. It was very tender and flavorful. The large green salad had lots of veggies on it.
The drinks were very reasonable. A large glass of wine was just 3 euros, and after dinner limoncello was just 2 euros.
Overall we enjoyed our dining experience at Il Cantico, and that had a lot to do with the great owners.
