BRILLIANT. Staff very friendly and helpful. Cant fault the hotel. Would definately stay again without a doubt. Stayed in a hotel in Perugia and staff were rude and very unhelpful. WELL DONE TO ASSISI.

We stayed in this hotel on the first and last night of a week’s cycling holiday and were very impressed. The rooms are light and spacious, with excellent bathrooms. Everything is spotlessly maintained and the staff are friendly and very helpful. The breakfast includes a good range of fare - fruit, juices, yogurts, cereals, meats and cheeses, home made cakes and pastries etc..

The hotel is easy walking distance to the Basilica and there are many, very good local restaurants and bars nearby. Well worth a stay.

Located in Santa Maria Degli Angeli 7 kms from Assisi it is almost next to the railway station. The hotel is reasonably modern for an ancient city but still lacks some of the city finesse. The lift only goes 2 floors so you need to go by stairs to the third. There is no tea or coffee making in the room and breakfast is typical European - lots of cakes and sweets but little meat or egg dishes. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Bathrooms a little small. Third floor rooms do have a large rooftop balcony to enjoy. Good value compared to many other hotels.

Room Tip: 1st or 2nd floor good as the lift goes to 2nd floor only. 3rd floor only good as it has a large outdoor balcony but a big climb.

We started and finished our cycle tour of Umbria at this hotel. The hotel was modern and spotlessly clean. The staff we very friendly and efficient and keen to help. The meal in the restaurant were very nice. We did not fancy cycling uphill to the old town of Assisi but not to worry there is a cheap bus service every 30 minutes which leave from the square a hundred yards away.

Room Tip: There is good view from the balconies at the front of the 2nd Floor

This is a fabulous, family run hotel right in the centre of Santa Maria degli Angeli, the town where St Francis of Assisi got his calling. The large Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli was actually built around and encloses the little church that St Francis founded in the early 1200s.

The Dal Moro Gallery Hotel rooms are light and spacious, with excellent bathrooms. Everything is spotlessly maintained and the staff are friendly and very helpful, but not intrusive. The lobby area is designed and furnished as a comfortable and inviting living room, right down to a small library built into one wall and a compact bar. Upstairs, past the the bar, is the breakfast room, which doubles as a restaurant as needed and has a plate glass wall which overlooks the cozy lobby. The breakfast includes a good range of fare - fruit, juices, yogurts, cereals, meats and cheeses, and a very tempting assortment of breads, home made cakes and pastries, topped off by good teas and coffee. There is an a la carte restaurant on the next level where the food is very good and the wine list impressive, all served by a qualified sommelier. There is an undercover parking garage underneath.

The hotel is easy walking distance to the Basilica (70-100 metres) and many, very good local restaurants and bars. There are also many local boutiques and fresh fruit and vegetables are sold near the hotel each day by a local seller. Assisi is just seven kilometres or twelve minutes away and the drive to get there takes you through some very pretty farmland.

Dal Moro Gallery hotel and Santa Maria degli Angeli make a fabulous base from which you can tour and explore the many lovely hill towns of Umbria - such as Todi, Spello, Spoleto and Orvieto as well as parts of Tuscany, such as Cortona. Both the hotel and location make a stay in the area very special.

A final word on the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli (Church of St. Mary of the Angels): When you visit the grand Baroque basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli you will see standing directly under the basilica's large dome, the Porziuncola ("little portion") the original stone chapel restored and frequently used by St. Francis. Dating from the 9th century, the long-abandoned chapel was given to Francis by the Benedictines and became the early headquarters of the new Franciscan order, founded here in 1209. In it he founded the order of Friars Minor that would later be known as the Franciscans. It was also here that St. Clare embarked on her monastic life on March 28, 1211. Nearby, in the humble cell now known as the Cappella del Transito, is where St. Francis died October 3, 1226.

Room Tip: Book a larger room (comfort room) with a terrace. Better for longer stays
