Love coming back here regularly. Lovely Estate with spectacular views.

Great area to walk or cycle around, or drive if you don’t fancy (or can’t) walk/cycle.

Estate is well looked after.

My only bad experience was yesterday with Staff in visitor centre. They need to get some customer service training. Woman on front desk was quite frankly rude and obviously bored at work.
But I’m not marking such a spectacular place on the earth down because of one humans attitude!

Come here- it’s lovely!

We did not know about Elan Valley and the dams but found it as we wanted to go geocaching, there are quite a few around in the area which is why we went there. Gorgeous countryside with the lakes and the hills and truly amazing walks. We will be back again.

I am from Birmingham originally and was aware water came from Elan valley to Birmingham but was unaware that there are in fact a chain of reservoirs and dams set in a 72 square mile estate. The drive around them all was glorious - stunning scenery and awe inspiring feats of architecture alongside many, many sitings of Red Kites.
The visitor's centre is very informative.

I hadn't been here since the mid 80s, when one of the reservoirs nearly ran dry and the old village re-appeared.
What a brilliant place for a family visit though. Great walks around the visitor centre and the kids loved the playground. Seeing the dams in full flow was fantastic.
We then drove around the reservoirs and onto the dams. The views were incredible. By the time we got to the end of the route we were on top of the Cambrian Mountains and with it being February half term there was a bit of snow up there.
It was a bright and sunny day, but chilly. We could see all the way to Mount Snowdon and south to the Brecons and we found a patch of moorland about 40 feet long with snow on it for the kids to go sledging.
I would love to come back to go mountain biking because the area is so beautiful. It is a little-known gem for most people outside of Wales and certainly worth a visit, just for the views alone.

Well worth taking the time to drive around the lakes and see the number of dams there are. If the weather is kind there’s loads of good walks you can go on and they give you an even better appreciation of the engineering involved here.
Welsh water do an excellent job maintaining the valley. Everything is so well kept. Definitely recommend a visit.
