We stayed for my birthday week (February) and had a wonderful time. Canopied bed in room, jacuzzi tub, hammock on balcony, beer, soda and water in fridge. Many restaurants with great food, room service that was fast and food was right temperature. All inclusive with adult only (16 and over) only. No children running, sceaming or splashing at pool! Just the right amount of relaxation and fun you could ask for. Wonderful birthday trip!!

Decided to spend our 25th Anniversary at the resort. Returned just before New Year. 5* star pure luxury. Gourmet dining, super location, rooms and service. 24/7 Room service, totally spoilt. Had candlelit dinner on the beach, sky massage and water journey. the people are wonderful and very genuine. would recommend this holiday to anyone, no negatives.

Our first visit to El Dorado Royale Casitas was in February 2011. We had narrowed down our choices using Trip Advisor reviews and were looking for a really special and upgraded experience. Being no stranger to the all-inclusives in the Riviera Maya area, we were delighted with this resort. Within the past five years, we've stayed at Cozumel Palace, Secrets Maroma Beach, at Ocean Coral & Turquesa in the "privileges" section, and at El Dorado in the Casitas. We've enjoyed all of them very much, but for the first time in our lives, we'll be heading back to the same resort for this year's winter vacation. The Casitas were outstanding. The huge room was absolutely beautiful and included a massive bathroom, an outdoor shower, an indoor jacuzzi in the bedroom, and a second floor balcony with outdoor bed and infinity pool overlooking the pool and the ocean beyond. We've never stayed in such a spectacular room. Not being fans of the giant fortresses on the beach, we prefer small to mid-sized all-inclusives. One of things we loved so much about the Casitas was the way the property was built along the length of the beachfront. Although it seemed to be at capacity, we never felt as if we were crowded. The multiple smaller pools and the beach beds in the Casitas section give you the feeling that you've got your own private space to enjoy. Things we adored - the room was incredible, the pool in our Casitas section never seemed to have more than a dozen people around it, the staff was super friendly and incredibly accommodating, the concierge was lovely and helpful, the beach beds were awesome. This may be the first place we've stayed where we were able to actually get a beach bed most days, without having to be annoyed by the guests who drop towels to "claim" them and then wander off. We love a beautiful beach and were a little concerned when we saw the reviews mentioning the sandbags/whales along the beach at El Dorado. They do take a little bit of the beauty away from the experience, but they're really not that bad. Coming from Chicago, we're used to good restaurants and were not disappointed at El Dorado. Special mention to the fondue restaurant (open air up at the treetops) - we went twice within a week. Breakfast at Kampai was lovely. We loved the lunchtime grill option at the Casitas pool. Not too much food, but always wonderful. The martini bar is cute. We brought lots of singles and fives to tip the hardworking staff, but didn't really feel that we got better service because of it. They make you feel as if it really matters that you are enjoying your stay. Thanks so much to all of the Trip Advisor reviewers who clued us in to this amazing place. We loved the Casitas so much that we now feel we need to start writing our own reviews.

Having travelled extensively and usually independently this was our first package holiday for many years. We booked because of the reviews on Trip Advisor and we wanted to return to Mexico as we last visited over 10 years ago. The swim up suite which we upgraded to was well worth the extra money and we would recommend this option to everyone. The food was a big surprise, we ate brilliant food everyday and really enjoyed the two Italian restaurants and Kampai, a special mention to the beach butler with his packed lunches, cold water and ice lollies who always had a smile and the food at the gourmet corner at casitas 30. The people who really made our holiday special are the concierges Laicie and Franco and especially Allen, nothing was too much trouble, if we had a problem it was sorted quickly and efficiently which we always feel is an indicator of a really good resort. Allen arranged a visit to the sister hotel Maroma which was beautiful but for the first time ever we have already decided to return to a destination and will be booking the Casitas again for next year. The advice of the concierges is invaluable, not only do they book all the restaurants and give information on the resort but also gave us recommendations when we took the shuttle into Cancun. However we committed a cardinal sin, after tipping everyone who gave us great service it was only at the airport did we realise that neither of us had tipped the people who made our trip so enjoyable each thinking the other had - the concierges. So thank you to our fantastic pool barman Abel, our room steward Al Bara who covered our bed with petals, ran the jacuzzi and sprinkled flowers in it, and cleaned our room so efficiently but a huge thank you to Allen and his team for their wonderful service

WE just had to go back again so we could try all the things we didn't have time for the first time we went. This time we got to eat dinner at Kampai, La Fondue, Isla and Fuentes that we couldn't fit in during our first three night trip. Absolutely loved Kampai, actually wonderful at all three meals, and La Fondue. Even though the filet is mostly precooked, it was just fabulous and the sauce was warm and delicious. The cheese appetizer fondue was the best I have ever had. Fuentes was a bit of a disappointment. There was not really an entree the night we were there. It seemed the grill was out of order. And the dinner theater presentation is not as represented on the website. The screens just show scenes of Mexico, not the chefs while they were cooking at their stations. Actually, even in the buffet lines, we didn't see any chefs cooking at all. That was really the only food that wasn't fantastic. Eddie at JoJo's made my husband the tuna he remembered from last time - much appreciated. Don't forget the burgers and hot dogs from the lunch cart, if you are in casitas 30 and up you do have to go to 29 since the cart doesn't go down the hill, but it's worth it.

The chief bartender at the martini bar is fantastic and the bellini bar was great also. I still don't think that any room at any resort can beat a swim up casita. The room, porch, pool and easy beach access with the beach bed are just fantastic. A tip to pass along, bring a wine cork to put in the sliding door for easy access. Read this once long ago, and really appreciated it. The casitas are just perfect for a relaxing getaway with great food and a great environment. Also enjoyed the water journey and steam room at the casitas spa, especially since there is no additional charge! My husband enjoyed the massages he received there also.

P.S. I have read many comments about swiming and the beach, but there are swimmable spots. If you go between the rows of sandbags in front of 30/31 sections there is a nice area for swimming and you don't really have to worry about any current but can go in deep enough water to really swim. And the view from the beach beds is great and the sand very walkable. I think next trip we'll have to try at least a different resort for comparison since we haven't been to another all inclusive, but I sincerely doubt any could be better, so after that we'll be back to the casitas again.
