Liscombe Lodge Resort and Conference Center
Ranked #1 of 1 Hotels in Liscomb Mills
Reviewed 21 November 2017

We stayed here in August 2017

The good
Location – scenic location located in a remote part of the province with lovely scenery (birds, river, frogs)
Hiking trail – The Liscombe River Trail is a 10k loop along the river. Relatively easy hike with nice views of the river.
Food – was good, seemed a little pricey but just depends on what you order. In terms of cheaper options, the burger ($15) was excellent as were the mussels ($11). Porridge at breakfast was $5. Chowder was also excellent and not expensive.
River tour – well worth the $12 with local guide Chester
Canoes, kayaking – free rentals with all the gear.
The pool – unlike many hotels with freezing cold pools, the water and air in the pool is very warm and the kids loved it. The hot tub was the perfect temperature too. Towels are provided and change rooms are there. Hours are great – morning until 10pm. If you bring a beer in a plastic cup, chances are no one will bother you.
Fireplace and communal firepit – are stocked including wood, kindling, newspaper and matches. Just bring your smores.
The bad
Apart from the main Trail, the other hiking trails were not well maintaninced. Having someone maintain these trails once a week during the summer would be a huge help. Better signs and maps are also needed.
More casual food options that can be taken back to the cottages (high quality pizza) would be great.
Games room (pool tables, table tennis) is not maintained and basically unuseable. This is unacceptable and needs to be corrected.
Place is a little dated but functional.

The ugly
Nothing here. The place is a bit run down so I would hesitate to recommend it at full price. On the half price special, it was an enjoyable and economical getaway and our kids (ages 8 and 4) loved it.

We had determined that we wanted to take the road less traveled and this is how we came to stay at this unique accommodation. This conference facility/ chalet combination is set in a vary pretty part of the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia. It’s on the banks of a lovely river nestled in the tress and is rustic yet very comfortable. The room in the conference center we stayed in was large and comfortable although fairly modest in amenities. The bed was large and comfortable and we had a nice supper and breakfast in the main lodge. There is a indoor pool modest but adequate for a quick dip or a warm soak in the hot pool. We very much enjoyed our stay here in spite of the fact that I was tricked into overpaying by Reservations.com. The hotel was apologetic when I explained how I had paid on US funds without being advised of this. Be very careful when booking hotels on line that you are not being looped into one of these unscrupulous online booking agencies they also will add an extra 19.22 to you credit card as a service charge without mentioning it. I suggested to the Luscombe Lodge that their good name was being ruined by this affiliation. Beware!

We stayed at Liscombe Lodge for one night in July and wish we had been able to stay longer. We had a great experience and would highly recommend the Lodge. Although the bathroom in our cabin was very small, the cabin was otherwise very comfortable and had a great view onto the river. The real treat at Liscombe Lodge, however, is the atmosphere and the amenities. We took advantage of the boat ride, hiking trails, ping pong, shuffleboard, etc., and it made us feel like kids again. There are other great amenities and offerings as well, and the restaurant is top notch. If you are looking for a charming place in a beautiful setting with a throwback atmosphere, by all means go to Liscombe Lodge.

Highly recommend this spot for a few days "Get Away". Just north of the busy Halifax metro area, and on an inlet (river) on Nova Scotia's east coast, a peaceful, quiet sanctuary. Riverfront dining, neat mellow wooded trails up the river. Nice family indoor swimming pool. Attentive staff. Check out the pontoon boat tour!

Room Tip: Be sure to check out the individual cabins on the river.

My wife and I stayed here for one night, Thursday, September 28, 2017 with our small-group tour. Liscombe Lodge is a return to yesteryear in terms of style and architecture. Most rooms are right on the river with a wonderful view. Sure, the place is dated but it is very well kept and the service is astonishingly good. The hotel manager met our group personally and welcomed us with sincerity and good humor. Food and drink are all very good. We think this would be a very nice place for adults to stay and get away from it all for a few days in the spring or fall - you know...for a little quiet time. Planked salmon over an open fire is the specialty of the restaurant.

Room Tip: Get a room right on the river.
