“Perfect weekend”
Reviewed 27 January 2012

Just finished a long weekend at the Bridge Inn which was a fantastic experience from start to finish. My wife, Jane and myself needed to get away from the stress of a busy Christmas and New Year and the hotel was a perfect place to relax in a friendly and charming setting with attentive and professional staff but at the same time extremely friendly going that extra mile to help you and make your stay was memorable.
The Inn has a great menu with fantastic local produce, also with a specials board which is changed daily, for the quality and quantity, it is good to see that pride in cooking and standards with the current climate have not been sacrificed, to keep a very reasonably priced menu. Every thing is home made down to the chips and onion rings. Be prepared to put on a few pounds. Breakfast was the same don't know how they do it for the price. Extensive menu and buffet style at weekends. Had bad experiences with buffets in the passed ( premier inn )
but not here.
Try some of the local ales served by a friendly bar manager called Andrew, who has great local knowledge and a good sense of humour. One tip don't ask for a soggy bottom after ordering a sneck lifter you might get some weird looks ! LOL
The room we stayed in was bright and airy with all the mod cons. With all the special touches , even down to real coffee. The shower was great, none of this going hot and cold or running out off hot water, the owners have put a lot of time and effort into making the rooms comfortable with high end facilities.
The location is great being only a couple of miles from the Cumbrian coast and in easy distance from all the lake district attractions.
The over all experience was amazing and we would go back in a heart beat. Nearly forgot your dog will be made as welcome.
if booking this phone the Inn direct as if done on line the Inn loses money and with the all ready great tariffs they could do without this.
Many thanks for a great holiday Andy and Jane from East Kilbride.

Room Tip: Room 9 with river view and king size bed but room doors were open while house keeping were carrying...

We have just returned from a long weekend's stay at the Bridge Inn and thought we simply MUST share our wonderful experience with you.....
The location of the Inn could not be more picturesque. It has a postcard setting with a lovely river flowing alongside which is great for morning walks to brush away any cobwebs from the night before !
From the moment we arrived, we could not be made more welcome by the Owners, John and Lesley and all their staff....It's the sort of place where you feel you've been coming for years even if it's your first visit. They are an "encyclopedia" of local knowledge, (as Lesley has lived in this area since childhood) have a great selection of brochures, maps etc and are always around to answer any obscure questions.
The rooms are what you would expect from a good countryside B&B.....we were lucky enough to have booked the 4 poster which was lovely....clean, bright and comfortable...oh and a special mention for the high quality bed linen which is used throughout all the hotel rooms...much appreciated after a long day's slightseeing.......
The bar and restaurant are so warm, cozy and inviting that we spent ALL 3 nights there sampling the delicious food and my husband especially enjoyed trying out many of the wonderful local ales on offer !!!! for a local inn, the menu is wide and varied with interesting daily specials written on blackboards around the bar area along with the regular menu....especially worth mentioning are the Scampi ( huge portion), Rib-eye steak (cooked to perfection), their "famous" salads which are immense ! and last but not least you simply must try a portion of the homemade chips which Lesley is renowned for NOT sharing hers with anyone -:)
A few special tips : Visit the local tea rooms and gift shop only a 10 mins walk away which has a large varied selection of beautiful gift ideas. It is easy to spend an hour simply pottering around looking at everything before popping next door for a scrumptious afternoon tea.
:Take the local steam train. It Takes approx 45 mins each way, passes through picture perfect countryside and stops at little stations from a bygone era.
:Visit the local castle/estate...."sorry I've forgotten the name"....It has the largest owl sanctury in Europe and very extensive grounds and gardens.

Lastly, we must mention John & Lesley's dog.....Bruce...he is just such a "love"....ask nicely and they may let you take him for a walk along the river which was the icing on the cake from our wonderful Lake District weekend.

Many thanks to you all....

I'm not sure i'm allowed to post a review when i actually didn't stay ? However i did interact with this B+B and ultimatley declined to book due to a bizzare phone call, so i do have an impression to share.

I was looking for a B+B for the night close to Scafell, this place came up on Laterooms as available ,£40 for a single traveller 1 night, entered all my details and payment info and just before pressing book, wanted to clarify check in times and breakfast directly with the b+b. Called and spoke with a foreign sounding gent (sry no name) mentioned i was booking on the web, he went on to suggest only 1 room was available and offered to book it over the phone, problem was he said it was £75 ! i queried and suggested i was 99% thro booking at £40 but he insisted that the room would not be available for that and £75 was the only price, somewhat confused and annoyed i declined his offer and booked elsewhere........

Just spent all weekend at the Bridge Inn and, without being too critical, it really couldn't have been better. We were checked in by friendly and professional staff, the rooms were clean, comfortable and homely, the waiter-served breakfast was fantastic and the bar was welcoming and friendly. It was the sort of weekend that you don't want to end and I would definitely stay there again. Highly recommended.
