We were supposed to be going Horse Racing, cancelled early Sunday morning & although the Cottage was fully booked, Richard managed to fit us in late on.
Excellent meal as usual, home made GLUTEN free pate ( my wife is Coeliac ) & roast lamb.
The Cottage serves two excellent local bitters, Wye Valley Butty Bach ( 4.5% ) & Hobsons Best ( 3.8% ) both reasonably priced. The Merlot Laguna is a very acceptable lower end wine & also reasonably priced.
They also serve the local Chase Distillery, award winning, Vodka & Gin
Worth a Visit but you must prebook for Sunday Lunch

Had a pre- Christmas Sunday lunch here. The trustworthy Good Pub Guide had made it pub of the year nationally so worth travelling the country miles to sample a very good Sunday lunch. Atmospheric gastro pub with good choice of ales and ciders.
We enjoyed starters of soup and a tian of crab and prawns followed by belly pork and with black pudding croquette and roast beef .Vegetables tasted of what they should have and service was efficient and unobtrusive.

Lovely rustic location in a rural idyll. However, the lack of investment in the property was immediately obvious on arrival. Our small, rather 'pokey' room had outdated furniture in various states of neglect. No shower in the bathroom and NO hot water in the bath!! Also no wifi - fairly standard these days. The main dining area just looked shabby and the bar area was very 'cosy'!
The food was quite nice - an appropriate pub menu. Service was pleasant but the house wines were not (what we would consider 'good'). Ales were okay but very limited (pub of the year?!); malt whiskies limited, I could go on.
We were surprised by the many glowing reviews- are we living in a parallel universe to other guests?? With the number of lovely village pubs we've been to in the area and beyond, we struggle with the award of Pub of the Year to this establishment.
We have been on a number of similar travel zoo deals but this is one we would not wish to repeat!

Over the past few months 'the cottage' has become a regular eating destination for me. A lovely cosy little gem nestled in the Herefordshire countryside. Fantastic food, lovely real fires and a nice atmosphere.

Family Christmas in Hoarwithy. Having regaled my husband, father in law and step-son with memories of my childhood in Hereford and knowledge of local pubs I took them to the "Cottage" as it was one of my favourite pubs back in the day. What a joy that the current owners have continued the high standard of food, service and the warm atmosphere that I remembered.
To the food: I had special trio of fish with aubergine and sweet potato stack with risotto and a pesto, really fresh and tasty meal. The men chose either steak or pork belly which they all praised. Great value, beautifully presented and good service.
What better way to spend Christmas Eve.
