I have just returned to the UK (August 9th, 2018) so while it is fresh in my mind then my thoughts on the Lanzarote Village Hotel may possibly be worth a read.

I booked an 11 night trip on half board for three (Wife and 12 year-old Granddaughter) through my local TUI travel shop. I think it is worth the extra £30 on online prices to have a face locally to contact, you never know if you require urgent assistance. Flying out of Luton, and what a dramatic improvement since my last flight 2 years ago, like a well-oiled machine. Quality retail everywhere. If only the good folks of Luton could use it on a daily basis, starved as they are in the town centre, Still hope, I understand, is on the horizon for the regeneration of the town with major new development. The flight was on a TUI Boeing 737-800. Comfortable seats with no leg-room worries, even for a six footer. But who designed the forward toilet? For gentlemen, if you are over five foot tall and need a leak, then forget it. Sit down you say, but can Britishers be trained to do that?

OK on to the hotel. Firstly I don’t think that the brochure photos do it justice. Interesting architecturally and I was impressed. An efficient receptionist welcomed us and invited us to take dinner before checking in. On completion of the paperwork a porter was summoned to guide us to our room. Good job, as without the navigation skills of Christopher Columbus you would not find it on your own. The building design means that you never take a left turn without immediately following with a right one. We had booked a sea view room but equally good would have been one overlooking the pool. The room was impressive. A bathroom with a large walk-in shower, a very well designed, large wardrobe incorporating a safe, a suitcase table, dressing table, TV with cupboard incorporating a fridge, two pushed together single beds and a very large sofa bed, permanently made up, the Granddaughter was impressed with this. A balcony incorporating table and chairs and a useful clothes dryer/airer but most importantly, the room was a generous size.

Food always is a major factor when booking a holiday. The Lanzarote Village follows the usual tried and trusted format of buffet style and there are plenty of staff to ensure that the debris is cleared away before you return with your next course. Incidentally the staff are excellent. The choice of food is good and unless you are from a lost tribe in the Amazon rainforest you will always find something you recognise and more importantly enjoy. Our highlights of the menus were the Chinese, Italian and Mexican nights. If you enjoy an English type fryup for breakfast then the streaky bacon may be a problem, personally I like it but something leaner would possibly please more.

The swimming pool and surrounds are important, especially as this is a hotel where you are likely to spend considerable time. It’s a salt water pool, in my mind preferable to a heavily chlorinated one and it is surrounded with a huge number of sunbeds and umbrellas. Although the sea and beach is only 5 minutes away we only visited it once, on the first day, pool for us. I for one am not keen on music blasting out all day disturbing the peace. A chat with the resident director achieved an agreement that unless anyone asked for it to be on then he would switch it off and apart for the aqua aerobics it remained off for the rest of our stay, bliss, the only noise was the joyous sound of happy children.

And while on the subject of the pool, the national sport of Germany vs England of first to the sunbeds was disrupted when promptly at 09.00 the ‘management’ patrolled removing all towels and belongings from beds that were unoccupied. To be fair there is a big sign advising that sunbeds cannot be reserved, but come on, it’s a common ritual throughout the free world. This policy, to my mind is also a public relations disaster. Those affected will probably never come again, nor will their friends or family. Remember, from tiny acorns, mighty oaks grow and bad publicity should be avoided like the plague.

I can take it or leave the typical animation provision, the children’s seemed to be appreciated but I am no a fan of grown men demonstrating to their better halves that they can still hack it at waterpolo, it can get very boisterous and others are trying to use the pool.

Another major consideration is your evening entertainment. You would be unlikely to book this hotel if your preference is to be surrounded by restaurants and bars, they are either a long walk or a taxi ride away. The hotel provides entertainers in the bar. The children’s events seemed to be well attended and enjoyed and every evening from 21.15 it was the adult’s turn. Don’t expect Broadway or West End shows but some watchable listening. The exception was the magician, fooled me, how the hell did he swap the jacket with a lady from the audience whilst untying himself, mystery to me, enjoyed that.

In summary, would I recommend? A qualified yes. Would I go again, possibly, but definitely not if the pool music is resurrected. So four smiles out of five.

We stayed for 2 weeks in June 2018 on half board basis. Good accommodation and meals, recommended. The room was quite small but adequate. We normally go self catering but this was a nice change and we did not have to go far to dine which was a boon as my wife was suffering from Sciatica at the time.

We had another lovely holiday at this hotel. Standards still very high and why we keep returning for family breaks.
Lovely helpful staff on reception and so fond of the lovely restaurant team, who always go the extra mile to help.
Food very good... always something to choose from during an all inclusive stay.
Our son was ill the last days of this trip and Elise on reception team alerted the hotel management, who were so helpful to us.
Couldn’t fault reception or catering/ bar teams. Rooms always spotless too.

Situated nicely away from Puerto Del Carmen town centre, Lanzarote village is busy enough to have a great atmosphere but also quiet enough to relax and enjoy some peace and tranquillity. The hotel is the cleanest I have ever stayed in, the grounds are kept impeccable and the rooms are very clean and modern, the maids do a great job every day and leave you with a large bottle of water to keep in the fridges provided in each room. All of the staff are very friendly and helpful and you are always served with a smile and a joke. The kids and adults are well looked after by the hotels Animation team from morning to late afternoon with a variety of activities provided for any age. The food is a plenty and always cooked to perfection, with different themes for each evening meal every day.
Minus: (only one)
Although I’m splitting heirs. The only thing I can mention is... between 15.30 and 19.00 food is not available, which if you have been out and missed your lunch you need to wait until the evening. I guess the kitchens need a break at some point though.

Reception was excellent, we arrived at 13.00 and are room was ready and waiting - brilliant after an early start to be able to unpack and settle in immediately. Our safe key broke and there was a guy up to fix it within minutes, boarding passes were printed out for us on departure. Excellent service.

The Village is a lovely hotel, spotlessly clean, meticulously maintained. I never seemed to see any cleaning done but yet the place was always clean, the staff must have been out in the middle of the night! Housekeeping of the rooms was to a high standard. I loved the layout of the hotel and the idea of not being on a long corridor of rooms or high rise. We found our fellow guests were very quiet and we were never woken at night by people returning to their rooms, the layout of the hotel means not too many people have to pass your room.

We were on half board and food was very good (desserts were amazing and excellent fruit selections), selection was adequate for the size of the hotel, plenty of space in the restaurant and staff were friendly, efficient and attentive.

Can't comment too much on the evening entertainment or children's club, but what we saw seemed good.

Hotel is well located only a short walk to shops and restaurants and across the road from the beach. We walk a lot so we walked down to the old town and to the Biosphere Shopping Center, the walk to Port Calero is fantastic and you can get the water taxi back. Excellent cycle paths and there is a bike hire place right beside hotel.

There was only two things I didn't like about the hotel - lumpy pillows (beds super comfy) and the pool was freezing cold and very deep... as in i'm a weak swimmer and trying to watch out for two children and stay within my depth was a challenge. I could use very little of the pool, this was the first pool I had such an issue in.

Lifeguard on duty was excellent, very watchful and ensured anybody (ie children) that were in the pool could swim. My daughter (who is a good swimmer) drifted into the deeper end of the pool on a ring and he was straight over to ask her if she could swim. Very good to see.

Room tip: Many rooms have a sea view which was lovely.
