We had really high expectations from Aaliku since the reviews of the place were so good. Hence, we were a little underwhelmed when we got there. The first impression when you enter the place is really nice. The pool area is charming, and well maintained. But once you walk into the property, it seems a bit ramshackled.
We stayed in room 7, meant for 3 persons. Room was large, had sufficient storage. They gave us unfilled duvet covers as blankets. The bathroom fittings were rusted and the pressure in the showers and taps was very poor.
The AC remote didn't work, but was fixed once we asked them to. Wifi was poor too. Our phone chargers were not compatible with the plug points and they only had one converter.
But these were minor skirmishes. Breakfast was quite nice - eggs to your liking, fruits, pancakes. The hotel staff is also really sweet. There's a nice restaurant servicing Lombok Cuisine and a supermarket right outside, making the location ideal.
Gili is a really small island with just 500 inhabitants. Tourism is just picking up. I think most places will have the same standard. For the price we paid, it was a fair deal. Aaliku aspires to be a nice budget pool villa, but they is a lot of room for improvement.More
