We just completed a five night vacation at Southern Palms and we were very pleased with our stay. As a family of four, with two boys aged six and seven, the location and layout of the hotel was perfect for us.

We had an ocean view room near to the carpark, which was ideal for us as we are locals and were driving. The views of the ocean were stunning. There was also a pool located in front of our room, which we really did not use as the boys preferred the larger pool. The hotel is located on a pristine stretch of white sand beach and the layout of the hotel, with the pool right on the beach front made it easy for us to relax in comfort as our children moved between the pool and the beach.

Breakfast was included in our package so we used he restaurant daily and found the meals we had there (which also included some lunches) to be tasty and well presented. Breakfast offered a good selection and a more varied daily offering is the only thing that would have made it better. The staff was friendly and helpful, particularly Maureen and David. We had a large group for lunch in Sunday, when they do a buffet with steel pan, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it.

One of the best features of the hotel for us was the access to watersports and other activities to keep our children engaged. The hotel offers boogie boards, beach volleyball, other watersports like windsurfing and we also played tennis. In the area we were able to access surfing lessons and jetskiiing. I was even able to do a Zumba class.

We were able to meet and interact with the General Manager Britta, whose warmth and personal touch made us feel very welcome.

As Barbadians, we vacation at a local hotel every year and we truly enjoyed our stay at Southern Palms. In fact, if my children get to decide we will be back next year.

Our third visit to Barbados and our third stay at Southern Palms. This time we stayed in one of the suites. Expensive but worth the money. As always the staff are fantastic and always remember you. A good sign of a good hotel is when the staff stay there for a long time and this is certainly the case. We have been going over the past 10 years and the same staff are there. Happy employees means happy hotel which means happy guests.
In a perfect location on the 'Gap'. The beach is splendid and water sports are included. Excellent restaurant and bar. However there is an abundance of restaurants nearby to try. We had a kitchen so made our own breakfast and dined out in the evening. There are 2 pools. Both kept very clean. It looked like they were cleaned daily.
We have never found this hotel crowded. Infact that is what we like about it - seems rather select. If you want to chill out in a friendly exclusive beach hotel this is the one for you ! Location is everything and this one is ideally located. Remember though that all the beaches in Barbados are public beaches and dont belong to the hotels.

Room Tip: You really want to pay the extra for a sea facing room. Going to sleep with the sound of the waves is incredible. And watching the sun set over the sea from your own balcony is worth every penny.

We went to Barbados for our 20th wedding anniversary in February. We wanted somewhere that was within easy walking distance of the action at St Lawrence gap whilst not being too noisy for sleeping. We found 'Southern Palms' ideal. 5 minute walk and your in the middle of the action. We had no noise at night apart from the whistling frogs. We had a garden view room booked but we were given a room with a lovely big balcony and a fantastic sea view. We were given a room in the 'Carlisle block'. It's the furthest from the reception and pool, so if you want a good nights sleep i would recommend asking for one of these. All the staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful. Good security, there was always somebody patrolling the grounds. Not that you have anything to worry about safety wise. The island is beautiful and the people are some of the friendliest we have ever met. When it comes to safety just use common sense and you'll have a fantastic time. We hired a jeep from Drive-a-matic and i can't recommend them enough. They gave us a great rate and they were very efficient. Jeep delivered to the hotel and picked up again. Must give 'Champers' a mention too. We booked for our anniversary meal via e-mail before we left England and they made it such a special evening for us. They had a beautiful ocean rail table for us ( you have to book in advance to get an ocean rail) and they had decorated it with confetti and happy anniversary messages. The food was divine, the service friendly and efficient. They even brought us a free dessert with sparklers etc at the end of the meal. It was the most expensive meal we had while we were in Barbados but it was so worth it. Also a must is Oistins on Friday's.

Room Tip: Ask for the 'Carlisle rooms' for the best nights sleep

We go every year, and the staff is always extremely welcoming and friendly. If you sit at the tables in the bar, you can look out at the sea while enjoying a varied menu of delicately prepared items. The drinks are wonderful, and there is a manager's party evey Monday night, in which Rum Punch and appetizers are served, including Bajan Fish Cakes, which are always extremely delicious. The St. Lawrence Gap road has a variety of restaurants, and if you choose to eat at the hotel restaurant, the food is immaculate, and the waitstaff are friendly and extremely professional. There are two pools that lead onto the beach, and the sunny atmosphere is breathtaking. There is high tea (and muffins) at 4p every day. Overall, a very relaxing and charming experience. We cannot wait to go back.

We stayed in Southern Palms from 11th - 18th March 2012. We got married there on 15th March. I could sum this place up and ALL the staff as absolutley amazing. The hotel is situated on a beautiful beach with palm trees and golden sands, step out your door to the pool then onto the beach with free beech towels, sun beds and water sports and someone always at hand to help you. We met a number of couples all had been back here many times so I think that says a lot.
The hotel is only 3 storey high and covers a large area with beautiful pink blocks of rooms with balconies looking over the sea. The room was basic but was clean and had hair dryer, iron etc. all you need for a fab holiday. We did have to pay 3US$ per night for our safe but no big deal. All charges for drinks, food etc. bought in the hotel are put to your room which means no money needed when your on the beach (just worth keeping an eye on how much your spending so you know approx. how much you bill will be). The grounds are very nice and well managed.
Our wedding was aranged by Jenni. We e-mailed her prior to going and told her we were planning to get married there. She booked the day for us, sent us the info and told us to just arrange everything on arrival which we were slightly worried about, nothing was paid till we got there. As it happens there was no need to worry, Jenni met us the first day, sat down and simply explained everything we had to do and pay, really simple. There was only two of us there so nothing to worry about, she arrange a taxi for us with Michael, a really nice guy who took us to the ministry for a certificate and waited to bring us home. Then we sat back, enjoyed our holiday, then got married. Flowers, photographer, minister, amazing setting, free cake and champagne. Out of this world. Later that evening I asked for a candle lit dinner on the beach for us..........Jenni was on it and there it was, beautiful with the steel band playing at the hotel in the background and Donna a fab waitress came out and looked after us like we were the only two people in the hotel. Everyone spoke and wished us well and a few small children ran over to give my wife flowers as we had our photo's taken on the beech.
The area around the hotel is clean and plenty of places to eat and drink. We found it safe but best just to keep your wits about you as you would anywhere in the world.
Jenni, Donna and all the staff at Southern Palms we can't thank you enough for making our stay so amazing. O and also Manty Cooper took our wedding photo's, she is a lovely person with reasonable prices and an amazing photographer, I would recomend her to anyone.
We WILL be back!!!!

Room Tip: Maybe ask for a sea view, but not sure if most are already.
