“Ancient but Modern”
Reviewed 12 September 2016 for a stay in September 2016

This beautiful villa is based on a 200 year old farmhouse, we believe, but the conversion to a comfortable modern holiday property has been superb. There are 4 separate double en suite suites, one with a connecting twin-cot "nursery" and one with an adjoining (but separate) twin-bed room. All have air-conditioning. There is a large kitchen with top quality modern appliances, and all the bathrooms work equally well. There is ample dining space for 12 either indoors or outdoors. At the same time, partly because of the maturity of the buildings and surrounding gardens, and partly because of the tranquil location, the villa has a real air of peace and seclusion from the modern world. There are fabulous views from the gardens and pool area to spectacular surrounding mountain scenery. The English owners are next door, unobtrusive but constantly helpful and hospitable.

Management Response

Thank you for your kind comments and so glad you had such a great time at Almond Hill House and enjoyed the peace, tranquility and views. We are also glad you enjoyed your morning cycling and the meal prepared at the house by the private chef. We would be delighted to welcome you back one day.

Also to note that we now have a fifth en suite bedroom.

“Beautiful restored farmhouse in idyllic setting”
Reviewed 29 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

We stayed for 1 week as a family of 5, being joined in the second week by a family of 4.
Matt and Sarah were attentive but very discrete neighbours that left us an amazing welcome pack including produce from their land and homemade bread, biscuits, cava and chocolate milk. The olive oil is probably the best we have ever tasted.
The setting was beautiful and the pictures of the grounds do not do justice to the farmhouse. the pool was cleaned twice weekly so was in pristine condition with plenty of spots to soak up the sun or chill in the shade. The lawn was a bonus for playing boules and we were invited to pick the trees in the extensive grounds so had a glut of fresh figs and homemade lemonade.
As well as being in a secluded setting, it was easy to walk along the goat track into the nearby town Orgiva with local shops, restaurants and bars ( you do not need to set foot near a hyper market!) The walk takes approx 20mins- head torches advised for a nighttime stroll back.
The farmhouse itself has been sympathetically restored and is stunning- with all you would need.
We do not normally return to the same place, as life is too short, but we had a wonderful stay and would be very keen to visit again.

“Beautiful home in the Spanish hills”

Matt and Sarah are thoughtful, generous owners who really went the extra mile to ensure we had a great time. Their home is exquisite, with an eclectic mix of traditional Spanish and modern furnishings. The garden has superb views over olive groves and lemon trees and has plenty of sun loungers and shady spots under wisteria-covered alcoves. The area is brilliant for walking, cycling and rock climbing with plenty of good restaurants and pretty towns nearby. The homemade olive oil was a bonus too! Definitely recommend it.

“Great family villa rental”
Reviewed 9 April 2016 for a stay in March 2016

Stayed for a week over Easter with a large family group (4 kids & 6 adults). Great villa with a well equipped kitchen, large private terrace looking out over olive groves. Children had lots of fun playing in the garden, table tennis hut and picking lemons. Easy access to the coast and Granada. Owners were very helpful. We arrived late at night (~11 pm), having followed very clear directions from Malaga and were met in Orgiva and guided the last few miles to the villa. Ceramics class on offer at a local pottery was a hit with adults and children. Would thoroughly recommended for a stay in beautiful Andalusia.

“Great holiday house, sad to leave”
Reviewed 21 October 2015 for a stay in October 2015

Spent a week at this beautiful house which is run by a lovely couple. We arrived in Orgiva around midnight and they kindly met us and guided us down the lane to the house (we would never have found it in the dark). They provided a welcome pack including homemade almond biscuits, bread and even some chocolate milk for the 5 year old in the party. All very considerate.

Excellent facilities including large pool, lots of sun-loungers, great kitchen with lots of equipment, BBQ, unobtrusive owners and inquisitive cats.

The gardens and house are very spacious and surrounded by fig, olive, almond, citrus and pomegranate trees. It's just as it looks in the photos, very relaxing and set in a lovely, rural location in the Alpujarras.

A member of our group described it as 'a house for people who don't like each other'! I don't think this was a reflection on us, but it summed it up nicely. It's a quirky layout, so if you want to get away from the rest of your crowd, you can.

We got great weather (25 degrees in October!) which made it even harder to leave. I'd highly recommend this for a 'get away from it all' kind of holiday.
