Villa St Therese is everything and more that is offered. It is spacious, well equipped, beautifully decorated, each large double bedroom with its own bathroom, beautiful grounds and a pleasant stroll into the town. If you are looking for a rural French experience then this is the place. We gathered walnuts, chestnuts and mushrooms from the garden, stoked up the log fire on a cold night, wondered what the world was doing on the evening that we sat on the terrace with the magnificent view of the bastide Monpazier, loved the twitter of the birds, even the crowing of the far off roosters during the day (those French roosters sure are confused). Monpazier is a gorgeous town with friendly people, village supermarket, craft/art studios and a weekly market. We did not have a car but this only made the experience more peaceful, more enjoyable. We would return in a heartbeat.

“Fantastic house for a celebration”

We were a group of 10 celebrating a 50th birthday - this is the perfect house for this, with large rooms (bigger than the pictures suggest), gorgeous bedrooms and bed linen, plenty of bathrooms, and lots of terraces for outdoor eating - either lunch under the trees or dinner on the west terrace with amazing views of the town accompanied by stunning sunsets. Provisions from the butcher and baker in Monpazier were excellent quality, condusive to many bbq's and large platters, and the pool was very well used by all as well. Cricket in the orchard also featured, and all in all this is a perfect house for a proper getaway. Many thanks Rosemary for all the lovely touches and the very informative local information - Le Marmiton was an absolute highlight.

“Truly the highlight of our trip to France!”

Just home after a month in France, our best memories are of our week at the Villa Ste. Therese in Monpazier. Three couples shared this wonderful house; none of us had been to the Dordogne before, so it was great to discover this beautiful region with such an amazing home base. Monpazier is a lovely village and we enjoyed our daily walks there. Highlights were a sunny day canoeing down the Dordogne River from Vitrac to Beynac (check out Copeyre Canoes), visiting castles and bastide towns, getting lost (but never for long) on little roads, and stuffing ourselves on cherries in season. The weather was iffy, but we were able to enjoy the swimming pool, table tennis, and lovely grounds. The view from the terrace is magical, especially as the moon grew bigger each night. One rainy evening, we lit a fire in the huge fireplace and enjoyed the spacious, nicely furnished living room. The kitchen is large and well-equipped; bathrooms and bedrooms are large, clean, and comfortable.
Dealing with Rosemary, the owner, was great - she is responsive, patient with all our questions, and clearly in love with her home and the Monpazier area. She is like the "unmet friend" - when I asked about the history of the villa, she sent me a long email describing its intriguing history as well as her extensive renovations and upgrades.
We were thrilled that Rosemary recommended a local "table paysanne", called the Marmiton, just a few minutes' drive away. With advance notice, Jacqui and Christine will cook and serve an amazing lunch or dinner in their house. We six sat outside on a warm evening, and spent three hours over a six-course dinner with several kinds of aperitifs, wine, and digestifs. The meal centres around their own farm products, with an emphasis on goose and duck. Since I do not eat much meat, Christine substituted the magret main plate the others were having with the most delicious omelette I've ever tasted (made from duck eggs and mushrooms).
Villa St. Therese is a true gem, and I dream of a time when we can return (perhaps with children and grandchildren) and introduce them to this wonderful corner of the world.
