we visited on Saturday 29th. July having read glowing reviews about the restaurant. We were given a single sheet menu. 3 starters, 4 main courses, 4 desserts. Compared to the online menu of 8 starters, 11 mains, 7 desserts PLUS 4 items on a light bite menu!

The presentation of the food was good as was the quality. Service staff good and friendly so it's sad to write a poor review. We hadn't travelled too far but if we had made a special journey from London expecting to have a wide choice then I would have been upset.

They didn't have either Ginger Beer or Bitter Lemon!!

The Bistro is only open on Saturdays and Sundays. The set menu is the same for both lunch and dinner on each day.

The views are wonderful.

This venue appears to be winding down rather than being a bustling, must come to location which is very, very sad. Whoever is in charge needs to take a hard look at the product and what they are trying to achieve. I don't like to 'knock' a place especially when the staff were so willing and cheerful.

It's not to late to turn this floundering business around!

We all enjoyed the experience of eating here. The crispy duck salad was lovely, the steak was cooked to perfection and the black forest desert was something a bit different, sublime and so well presented. Service was excellent. The total bill was reasonable considering most of us had the 3 courses, wine and coffee.

The only criticism not with the bistro itself but with parking. The guy at the entrance booth gave directions and it's well signposted to the bistro, you wind your way down the one way system but in front of the bistro building is full of no parking signs, the roadway nearby was full and I couldn't seem to get to the main car park without leaving and coming back in to the entrance booth, it would have been much easier to just use the main car park to begin with as it's not far to walk anyway. It would be good if the Bewl website and the staff at the booth recommended going to the main car park.

Is this one of the best dining establishments in the entire country?

I think so.

Its not just the enticing drive up and view. Although, if you've never been here, you will find the final 5 minutes of the drive like a glorious build up to an amazing musical crescendo. Its much more than that, though. It's the staff....Jensen and James are totally cool, efficient, professional and exhibit exceptional traits in interacting with customers that is fully in keeping with the casual, laid back nature of this beautiful, beautiful place. Bring your teenage daughters, they will fall in love with these guys, I promise you.

But now, on to the food. We hung out for Sunday lunch, which started out less busy but filled quickly. Book ahead! The menu is compact, but all of the items we ordered were prepared to perfection. One word about their chips. Chips? Yes....chips. In my opinion, these lovely people make the best chips in England. Super, super crispy on the outside, yet lovely and cloud-like fluffy on the inside. My son had the sirloin steak, but I'm afraid he was forced to share the chip serving once we all had a taste. I chllenge you to find a more amazing chip, I kid you not. just try a serving.

You can eat inside and relax in air conditioned comfort or venture out onto the veranda, get a bit more sun and feel the beautiful summer breeze come off the water. It's bliss either way, I promise.

I know, I know, I'm OTT. But you just try eating here and not feeling this way. i don't think its possible not to walk away without feeling like you've just experienced a dining experience that would normally be inaccessible to mere mortals either for price or availability reasons.

If you live in London, this restaurant is worth a Saturday night away trip. I can't help it, this is how I feel about this place. Fill your boots. Oh yeah, lunch for 4....We paid £104 (including drinks)! Fan bloody tastic!

I have been to the Boat House Bistro twice in the last month, and for very good reason. Set in the heart of Bewl Water, Lamberhurst it looks out over Bewl Water. It is a perfect setting for lunch. The interior is cool and grey. The staff are attentive and helpful. The menu is not overblown and the food is delicious. After lunch we took the ferry over the water to end a perfect day. I shall be going back regularly, as thankfully it is in my back garden.
