Description: Le Donjon is a small family-run restaurant in the picturesque Provençal village Le Bar sur Loup approx 35 min from Nice, on the hillside between St. Paul de Vence and Grasse. The restaurant is located in a protected building from the 11th century right in the heart of the village between Chateau de Amiral de Grasse, Hotel de ville and the local boule-square. We as restaurateurs are focusing on offering our clients the regions great variety of top products from suppliers and producers that we have had the pleasure to work with for several years. Our kitchen is defined by the pleasure we are having working with best products the region has to offer. We are not in to modernist cuisine or trendy dishes. We focus og classical cooking and techniques with flavours from Provence and the mediterranean. Old School. Unpretentious, cosy and local.

The evening menu was 3 courses for 38 euros and was worth every cent. The starter was a lobster bisque and this could be had as a main course if so desired. I had a steak as main and a selection of cheeses to finish. Complementary night caps were offered too. Small restaurant in beautiful little village. We stayed just outside in La Bastide St Christophe! A beautiful apartment walking distance from the village. We will definitely be back.

This is a very appealing little restaurant right in the village Centre. Lovely big umbrellas outside which are very inviting. Be sure to book as there are limited spaces. Menu changes regularly by the looks of things and there is little to choose from but what's on offer is not at all restricting. Everybody at our table found a suitable entree meal and desert. At first when we arrived and were seated I felt as though we may have done something wrong as the initial interactions with the staff seemed complicated and left me feeling uneasy but in fact the hostess was very helpful and pleasant and I suspect maybe we arrived too early? Food was very good and the restaurant itself was comfy. Overall and good meal and I would recommend

We prebooked as our host had warned us this restaurant was small and popular. On the night we visited midweek it was very quiet and provided an intimate dining experience in a chichi little space.

As we had children with us we booked for 7:30 and were the first there, so we waited outside for the table to be ready. We could have asked for a drink but just as a small aside it would be nice to offer a drink to diners while they wait too. However no problem, we had told the waiter we were in no hurry and enjoyed the evening air under the umbrellas.

I was a little concerned as at first glance the menu had a lot of seafood, but on second glance and with some translation et voila, there was great choices to be had. I had eaten well at lunch and I intended to dine lightly but the food was just too good to refuse.

Quail, NZ lamb , seafood for some and desserts to die for. I actually very much enjoy the small menu tradition in these restaurants as it focuses the mind and often you end up ordering something a little different to the norm. The chef kindly accommodated ice creams for the children while the adults dined as we had fed the kids at home before coming out and a nut free option for my dessert.

The waiter also kindly redirected us from our wine choice to one she thought was more suitable for our food choices. This was much appreciated. I enjoyed the chef coming into the dining room, it really made you feel he was invested and cared about their restaurant.

At first we did find the manner that things were done in this establishment to be a little confusing and initially took this to be a little unwelcoming. However this was possibly due to language or cultural differences and the night and experience was a five star outing. Definitely would visit again!

The Norwegian-french chef and his friendly wife creates the framme for a holistic experience with food made with love and affection. A shorttaxiride from Antibes and the scenary from the historic village reveals. The food and the service is of high quality as is the winecellar.

We thoroughly enjoyed a lunch at Le Donjon in July 2017. Beautiful setting, excellent service and truly delicious food. The menu is minimal but luckily we loved all options!
