This place was really fantastic, an oasis before the climb to San Juan de Ortega and the paved hell that is the last 10-15 kilometers to Burgos. That being said, there is no possibility of five stars without at refrigerator for the peregrinos.

Stepping into the Hotel San Anton Abad is like stepping into a dreamlike
oasis of peacefulness, especially after wearily walking to it on the Camino. The coolness of the beautiful main building and the many areas to relax in, are enough to ensure your immediate return to a state of tranquility. Better still the facilities are first class, a lovely family run hotel and albergue with shared facilities. The albergue is modern with a choice of bunks, single beds or a few rooms. Everything is pristine, great shower/toilet to beds ratio. Nice and spacious. There is a large kitchen, or a cafeteria - and the hotel restaurant which does a fantastic pilgrim menu for €12 (lunch & evening) The grounds are beautifully landscaped. The hotel itself is a wonderful building with plenty of nooks and crannies to while the time away in peace. Check in for the albergue is at hotel reception: the staff there and in the restaurant are helpful, friendly and very nice. I can't say from experience, but judging from the standard of everything else - the hotel rooms would be first class and worth considering as a 'treat' were one to be footsore and in need of a special rest from walking. I would also recommend the hotel to anyone just wanting a peaceful retreat for a couple of days. Definitely worth staying here!!!

Lovely period decor from the moment you walk through the courtyard. Gilded mirror frames to velvet draperies, this stately hotel offers ambiance galore. Beds are soft and comfortable, shampoo and soap supplied, however there is no laundry service. Friendly staff.
Meals available in restaurant.

Loved this place and our room was fantastic. We would have loved to stayed there longer for sure. The space, it was peaceful and quiet, clean. Maybe the bar can use a better supply on their selection of wines. But the service was very nice to us, thank you

The hotel itself is a very nice restoration of an old pilgrimage building on the route of the Camino, with the path directly outside the door.
The hotel was spacious, and the room was comfortable.
The table area in the garden outside the bar was a lovely place to sit in the sun, with a cool beer.

However, the food was disappointing - the same menu for lunch and for dinner.
And, it didn't appear to be freshly prepared, more likely reheated.

In addition the water switched off with no warning while I was in the shower, and I learnt later that this has happened before - needs to be sorted.
