We stayed at this hotel from 14 May to 18 May 2018 and thought that it provided exceptionally good accommodation for a 3-star hotel. It provides a free shuttle for guests into Funchal and back, at 10:00 and 17:00, which is a great service.

The decor and funriture is certainly traditional rather than fashionable/modern but our room and all the public areas of the building were immaculately clean. The furniture in our suite was very comfortable. The cooking facilities were good - twin-plate cooker, microwave, full-size fridge (not mini), kettle, crockery, pans and cutlery. All of this can be neatly hidden away behind folding louvre doors.

Our balcony was huge (the size of an average living room in the UK) and had a table with four chairs and umbrella, and two sun loungers. It had great views in three directions - cliffs to the left, ocean straight ahead, and Ribeira Brava & the dramatic coastline to the right.

The hotel is in a prime location, right on the seafront. Leaving the front door, you are less than a minute away from three choices of cafe, many other cafes and restaurants are within a few minutes stroll. Ribeira Brava is a small, quiet village which makes it easy to explore. There is a well-stocked supermarket around the corner.

We used the bar and sunroof terrace once and had a drink up there. We're not sunbathers so it wasn't really for us but there are ample sun beds up there for those who do want to tan. The pool is more for sitting in than relaxing as it is small and circular but it was clean.

Service was excellent throughout our stay. There was a mistake on arrival, as they had not been informed we'd booked a suite rather than a standard room but this was corrected instantly. All the staff were friendly and very helpful, making the stay a very pleasant one.

We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Room 603 has excellent facilities and a fantastic balcony/terrace.

The hotel itself has a great location. Rooms are dated but it was not an issue for us. The issue was the lack of interest from the staff. Upon check-in, check out no greeting no farewell no nothing. We did not receive a greeting or a question during our 4 day stay if we were ok need something etc... The only staff who had some sort of hospitality in her blood was the barmaid on the rooftop bar. Oh yes the cleaner lady was also smart enough to say at least hi to us. Breakfast was great, surrounding reataurant were awesome. All in all my advise to the management: get rid of your rude uninterested staff.

Excellent position on the sea front and close to all amenities. Went half board and the breakfast was excellent, however when we went there was no provision for evening meals so we had vouchers for a restaurant which wasn't that marvellous.

The rooftop pool I thought was the childrens paddling pool it was so small. The rooms were clean and comfortable. There was occasionally an unfortunate awful smell in the corridor which came from the dried fish in the supermarket below.

There were two negatives. We spent 4 nights in the hotel, looking for a room with kitchenette. However, kitchenette was poorly equipped. There were no cleaning products, no chopping board, sharp knife, just one set of dishes and the 3 pieces of aluminum saucepans must have been there since 70s. We asked for all stuff which was missing at the reception, only thing we got was a towel. Knife we borrowed from a bar and cleaning stuff we bought. Waiting every day when cleaning lady will do dishes with such limited amount of them was not a solution.Secondly, it was very hard to park a car. It's a 6-storey hotel and only 2 parking slots!!!
On the other hand, the roof terrace is pleasant place to rest. Also the area around was nice and bar next door is really cool place full of locals.
