We know the island of Cyprus very well, but havent really explored the area up in the hills and mountains above Paphos. Made an online booking and received a prompt reply advising that this was a busy time of the year and normally a 3 night stay is required. However; as there was a gap between bookings we were accomodated for our 1 night. Arrived at the hotel early afternoon and received a lovely welcome from Marios and Maroulla. Cold lemonade and cyprus sweet were offered whilst we cooled down.
We had a choice of rooms and chose a room on the upper floor, where we would get the full
benefit of a cooling breeze and also appreciate the views. We were in between bookings at the hotel so we were the only ones in for the night. The hotel only has around 9 rooms, all nicely decorated with some traditional touches. The old house has been tastefully converted and the rooms look out over the hills and also onto the lovely shaded inner courtyard. After relaxing for a while we took a stroll into Lasa village, about 200mtrs to the village square. The village is small, just a tiny shop, coffee shop/taverna and church but so very traditional, the way we like Cyprus. After a walk around the village we took an hours drive around the area. You are in the middle of the wine region of Cyprus, great scenery, unspoilt by mass tourism
and very pretty villages. We returned to the hotel and were offered coffee, cactus pear and figs - lovely. Marios explained about how the property belonged to his parents and used to be a coffee shop. We had a tour around and it really is a lovely hotel. There is one room with 4 poster bed, ensuite bathroom and lovely furnishings - for that special celebration.
We wanted to eat close by to save driving so Marios rang the taverna to let them know we would be coming later that evening.....with no one else around he wanted to make sure they had not closed up for the night! There are other tavernas in the villages close by but you would need to drive. Meal was lovely, whole roast chicken, salad, potatoes, bread and dips, followed by fresh fruit and a couple of cold beers.
Back at the hotel, the room is a good size, nicely decorated with airconditioning (Not needed as the breeze kept us cool). Nice balcony overlooking courtyard. Towels, shampoo etc provided.
Breakfast the next day was made by Maroulla, using local produce - it was fantastic! Bread, cheeses, halloumi, jams hard boiled eggs, olives, lountza, olive cake, tomatoes, cucumbers, figs and cactus pear. Plus tea, coffee, lemonade etc. Enough to feed a family.
We really enjoyed our 1 night at the Lasa Heights hotel. If you are looking for pools, mini bar, waiters etc this is not for you. If you want a lovely, traditional small hotel, nicely refurbished, great food and a lovely warm welcome then stay here.
Wifi available for those who need it. There is also a facebook page for the hotel with more details. We will return!
