Tim Burton meets Ghostbusters. Hans (the 85 year old owner) is one of the most fascinating people you will ever meet. He bought the hotel because his house on the Island wasn't big enough for his eccentric collection of art which is crammed into every square inch of the building. Rooms are basic but the price for an ensuite unit is $50 CAD. Unbelievable!!! One tip - don't book this hotel online. Hans doesn't know how to use an answering machine let alone a computer - he is old school ledger books. Call him between 8-12:00 or 14-20:00 otherwise he will be asleep. Final note - get out and speak with the locals (usually having an evening beverage across from the hotel next to the river). They are super friendly and full of stories.

Room Tip: Don't worry about the room view, check out the restaurant and bar.

An old and funky (in a good way) hotel, with every wall covered in art (some of it quite good and from well-known artists) and the rooms each having their own unique personality.

Old books, "shabby chic" furniture (that is comfortable) and floors that slope or are uneven (it's over 100 years old, after all) make it a memorable and fun stay.

Staff very friendly and helpful, nice fruit and pasty snacks in the common room as well. Lovely little village to explore in a beautiful location. Very close to Nelson if you need a "proper town" for more restaurant choices too.

came from sask and needed a place to stay on our way to Kaslo and this was an amazing place, quite interesting with all the art on the walls, clean room, clean washroom, came on a friday and they had a live bank in the bar, which has amazing food as well. Only bad thing was the person next door snored like a chainsaw and we could hear it through the walls.
