We had an apartment in Le Vieux Noyer for four days and could have stayed for longer. The apartment was huge and could easily have accommodated a family with children. There was a fully fitted kitchen, a modern shower room and an extremely comfortable bed. The breakfast room was on the first floor, and every day the lady of the house came to serve us with croissants, bread, cake, yogurt and a selection of her homemade jams. These came from the fruit trees to be found in the beautiful garden, where you can sit and look at the wonderful view across valley to the Gran Paradiso and beyond. The family also live in the building and are all very friendly and welcoming. This being a bilingual area they speak Italian and French, and some also speak some English.
It seems that this area is not on the radar of most English and American tourists, but they are missing a real gem. The villages are small and thinly scattered, meaning that walkers can hike for miles on roads and meet very few cars. Unlike Switzerland, it is possible to walk more horizontally, without going up and down all the time.
There is no wifi in the property, but a five minute drive will take you to St Nicolas, where the Hotel St Nicolas has free access which will also work outside. There is also s very good small shop there which stocks everything you might need for a short stay.
