If you are looking for another example of an out of the way village with no apparent commercial activity going on but a restaurant worth going to, then La Crémaillère in Anlhiac is well worth a try. It is just off the main road through the village, modern looking, bright, clean, and spacious inside with plenty of parking outside.
The large dining room off to the right hand side had armchairs and comfortable seating at the end, presumably to wait for your table when it’s busy.
We swigged Sangria aperos to start while we waited for our Crudites Italian style to arrive. When it did it was certainly a plate bursting with ingredients. Lettuce, Haricots Verts, Sweetcorn, Tomatoes, Red Pepper, Beetroot and Radish, a great surprise as I certainly wasn’t expecting that.
For the plat I didn’t fancy the Blanquette de veau avec pomme vapeur - Blanquette of veal (veal stew in sauce) with steamed apple and so ordered the vegetarian alternative which turned out to be cod with a cream sauce. Whereas the former came in a smallish bowl, almost like a soup, mine was served on a large round plate with vegetables (most unusual to be offered unrequested in this part of the world) Mushrooms, Haricots Verts, Potatoes and Carrots, together with what seems to be obligatory, albeit strange, on a hot dish in this part of the world – lettuce!
In contrast there was a slightly retro feel to dessert but the Baba au Rhum was surprisingly very nice. Not soggy with rum like my recollection of many previous offerings but this one had a dry texture – like those from a well known American donut house - and was served with an apple puree, a sprinkling of nuts and a dollop of cream.
