We went as two 22 year olds on our first proper holiday abroad together - and we would 100% come back to this hotel. Staff were friendly and engaging - especially Angie at the front desk who went out of her way to make sure our stay was perfect. Rooms were perfectly clean and tidy, food on the half board basis was traditional and well cooked, especially the BBQ on the Friday night! We saw Pavlos (one of the brothers who own the hotel) perform live music and we went both nights he played (Wednesday and Saturday) so if you go make sure to go on one of these days! He's brilliant!

Short 5 minute walk across the beach or 20 minute walk along the road round the back into Agios Sostis where there are plenty of restaurants and activities to book onto, and further along to Cameo Island and Laganas, beautiful and scenic. Away from the party scene of Laganas but still perfect for souvenirs.

We didn't go for the party scene so Porto Koukla was perfect for us, family fun and friendly. Absolutely stunning..

Dennis at the pool bar was exceptionally friendly - many a cocktail was purchased!

There are a couple of shops just up the road - the closest to the hotel (about 30 seconds away) is quite pricey so a short 7 minute walk along up the road offers some cheaper prices and a wider range of alcohol/foods.

Overall, 10/10 experience for us and we will certainly return with our families.

Room Tip: Take bug spray! Or a plug in that repels the insects - we did not do this and my legs were chewed alive!

Last minute deal with Thomas Cook - possibly the quietest place I have ever visited.
End of the beach, and if you don't like stairs or sharing with Dutch and Germans give this miss.
Room was very clean and spacious, air conditioning and safe. Beds were firm - 2 singles pushed together. Nice balcony. No fridge and we had to ask for the loan of a kettle.
Food served open air overlooking the sea. Breakfast was toast and rolls with cheese and meats, cereal, tea, coffee and juices. Dinner was buffet style and a little hit and miss. Lunch at the beach bar was very nice.
Supermarket a few yards away from front of hotel. Nice swimming pool and bar with friendly guy running it. Entertainment twice a week in beach bar... owner sings Greek music for hours...
Walk up the beach for a more lively area and restaurants or bars. Short taxi ride to Zante strip. Book a trip turtle spotting... a brilliant time.

Nice break but as it is a little too quiet for me...

First impressions was a beautiful hotel surrounded by a sweet smell of colourful fresh flowers and one side edged with a turquoise sea. We were offered a welcome drink of fresh orange and explained things regards meal times, cleaning safe etc The safe was 18€ and 5€ a night for air con. We waited to see if we needed air-con and with there been a mesh door to cover the balcony door we did not purchase this.
Our room had enough space for two and enough draws with one wardrobe that also held the safe. The safe held two I-pads and our purses. Lots of two pin plugs points. Lighting wasn't the strongest to apply makeup and wish I had taken a hand mirror to use on the balcony, which held a small metal table and two chairs. There was no small clothes airers to dry our things so we used the table. The free wifi worked in our room but only once on my i-pad, I think this is apple that stops me using my pad for security reasons. My i-phone worked ok though. The beds mattress was firm and ok for comfort, but was held in a wooden frame that we kept hitting our toes on. In this frame was also two more mattress that are probably used for a family of four. The bathroom was in need of a up date. A corner shower tray, a pink curtain holding on to a corner rail. The curtain was not the cleanest at the bottom too. The shower its self was a mixer shower like the ones you have over baths near the taps. There was nothing to hang the shower to the wall so you had to hold it while trying to wash. Lucky we took a sponge so we could soap up and then rinse. There is also a wall hairdryer in here, not sure if they have irons we didn't ask. We had no fridge and we found the walls to be a little thin but we did sleep ok from all the walking. The maid came in everyday, Sunday she came quickly to empty the toilet bin only. Our bedding was changed only once in seven days and our towels twice. We were told different and the sand did get on the sheets. I felt we were complaining if we asked anything so we left this. The hotel its self is well looked after. Its very rustic and take repellent for the night times.
We stayed half-bored. Breakfast was a cold buffet with toast, juice and coffee etc. We didn't mind the food though the soup was very watery. The food was always fresh and even though sometimes a little bland for us, we always ate well. It appears that they are not very big on desert here and we had water melon most nights, jelly once, Honey cake, and on the last night fruit punch. I have never stopped any where that only does just one desert. A suggestion of picture of animals near the food to know what meat or a veg to know if its vegetarian would be helpful.
The swimming pool was lovely and there was a bar to buy drinks too. I could not find the shower on my first day to wash before the pool as it was inside with the toilets. I did wash the next time but the floor turned into a ice rink. They really need mats down to and from the bathroom.
Thomas Cook spoke of orchards etc but they don't have one. Trip advisor spoke of a boat to take you to Turtle island. We asked about this and at first told it was windy, then the boat was broken, then it was not in season. There was not a lot of English spoken and only a couple of English people there at the time. If we asked anything we mainly got don't know or not sure. At one point while eating a skewer Kebab I asked the waiter for another paper serviette and was told " You get your own but this time I will, but if anyone sees me there will also ask". I have been to a lot of places but never been spoken to so rudely. We asked for late check out, we were told come back in the evening, we asked in the evening and told come back Thursday or maybe tomorrow. We booked a late check out with the hotel next door in the end. I did complain and we were sent free cocktails later by the pool. The staff were more friendly after this too but more like they had to oblige. From my daughters words. Mum I don't like this hotel its like we are gatecrashers every night. Besides that we had a fabulous time. We walked on the beach most days for long walks and a couple of times we caught a cab 9€. We went horse riding, the people and horses were amazing and now Facebook friends. ( please read my report )They do not exchange money in the hotel and also they don't on the strip either. Not sure if that was the UK pound only. They do have lots of ATM on the strip though and most places do take cards. We would not return to this hotel, but we would return to Zante.

Dear Madam,

To respond to your review.

About the non existence of the small clothes airers, I would like to inform you that our hotel does not provide it and I am sure that you will not find it in any brochure as one of our facilities.

Concerning the fridge, we only provide fridges on requests.

As you have been informed at the reception, two days after your arrival your towels are being changed. Then two days later, your beddings and your towels are being changed. I am sure that you have not been told different.

Every year, thousands of guests are visiting our hotel. I have never get a complaint about the non existence of "picture of animals near the food to know what meat or a veg to know if its vegetarian". Every night at dinner, the restaurant staff is there to help you and inform you about the buffet.

We are very sorry that we could not inform you immediately about your request for late check out but we depend on the arrival times. Probably at that moment, they were not available.

Because we want our guests to enjoy their time at our hotel, we try to provide them a friendly environment. We sent you the cocktails to make you feel good and welcomed and not because you complained.

Our staff takes care of every guest equally, either you complain or not.

We are a 3 stars hotel and our facilities, the areas of the hotel and the services are better than many hotels with more stars. That is confirmed by many of our guests that are coming more than one time every summer (we would like to inform you that Porto Koukla is the hotel with the most repeaters on the island). Besides that we are sorry that you did not have a good time in our hotel but as you might know each person's paradise is a Personal matter.

The hotel is family owned and run, very friendly with fantastic views, right on the beach, superb in every way. If you're looking for paradise, you've found it! We stayed half board for one week in May 2017. The weather was warm and sunny (most of the time) so we enjoyed an incredibly lazy holiday around the pool or on the tiny beach and in the sea (50 yards walk before it's deep enough to swim, which means the sea is incredibly safe for children) and ate most meals, breakfast, lunch and dinner at the hotel. Lunch at the beach bar is very casual, with incredible views over towards Turtle Island. Room couldn't be faulted. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Food was ample, with a reasonable choice and although not "fine dining" was of good quality and again, couldn't be faulted. Free Wi-Fi was a bonus, although coverage varied around the hotel. A short 5 minute walk along the beach (or through the lanes behind the hotel) took you to Agios Sostis, the next resort with restaurants, bars and supermarkets, boat trips, car hire and the like. Another 5 minute walk along the beach took you to the harbour. 10/15 minutes after that along the beach led to Laganas a big, brash, noisy resort, with hundreds of bars, clubs, and cafes and restaurants including McDonalds and Subway. Laganas is a world away from Porto Koukla - which is quirky, delightful and tranquil (everything which Laganas is not!!).

Additionally, Pavlos Linardos, one of the members of the family, and also one of the best known personalities/singers on Zakynthos, performs his music for residents twice a week in the Beach Bar together with Spirios(?) (the beach bartender) playing the mandolin. Not to be missed. A truly magical evening.

Cannot recommend Porto Koukla Beach hotel highly enough. Would go back tomorrow if I could.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back have sea views. Rooms at the front overlook the swimming pool.

We were staying in an apartment close to the Gloria Maris hotel. Our hotel was not ready for the season, so we ate at the Porto Koukla on our first night. I cannot fault them; we were welcomed with open arms and glasses of Ouzo. It is a beautiful location and the food is lovely.
