A truly wonderful holiday!
We stayed at Afrato Village Apts from 27th June 2015 for a week. Transfer was around 15 mins from the airport and we were greeted by Jerry on arrival. What a lovely man he is - we had fresh flowers and home made cake in our room to welcome us. The room, grounds and pool area are all kept clean and tidy, towels and bedding were changed regularly and bins emptied daily. We stayed in Room 5 (centre apt to 1st floor) and could not have been happier. The room was furnished in what i would consider a typical Greek style with plenty of storage room. The kitchen is well stocked in terms of crockery and utensils - we did eat in one evening but found it very reasonable to eat out so used our kitchen mainly for brekkie and lunch and had everything we needed. There is a large fridge freezer, an electric 2 ring stove, kettle and under-counter electric oven/ grill. The bathroom is small but functional with loo, sink, mirror and shower unit. There is plenty of hot water if you let the water run for a few minutes - it's not immediate so be patient. Also, there is FREE air conditioning! The only thing we did not have in the room was a safety deposit box. The shutters on the outside of the windows are an excellent idea - they keep out A LOT more light than curtains and they keep the sun off the windows in the daytime to stop your room becoming a sauna.
The views from the balcony were amazing and it was so quiet - not just at night, all the time! Some days we had the pool completely to ourselves for the majority of the day, the most we had around at one time were 3 couples so we were definitely NOT getting under each other's feet!!! The pool bar did not open during our stay and I've read some reviews that some people were disappointed with this - quite to the contrary, I preferred it. We brought drinks down from our room so this wasn't an issue at all. It was nice to not have to try and zone out music from the bar when you're in the middle of a good book! Listening to the sounds of the ocean is much more tranquil. We will be returning to this charming oasis as soon as possible - we didn't want to leave!!! Thank you so much to Jerry for a wonderful stay!
The shops are about a 10-15 min walk up hill into the village (there are 3 mini markets to choose from with plenty of fresh produce) and the beach is a 20 min walk downhill. There is a path marked "Trapezaki Beach" that is a shortcut for those able bodied but I wouldn't recommend it for anyone with mobility issues or very small children in buggies as it's a bit of a steep rugged path.
If you do go down to the beach, walk along to the beach bar towards the north end - it's lovely and has amazing views out to sea (great food!). You should also visit the Gefiri restaurant (10 min walk from apts) as their food is fantastic.
Go see the Loggerhead Turtles in the harbour in Argastoli!!!
